Parts new models in older ones

Hi.
I would like to know if somebody experimented to install the clutch cover of a 610 into a 1981-1984 model. It will be very useful with the fast acces cover to the clutch.
I had a TC610 and I remember that the low engine is very the same as my CR500/84.
In a extreme exemple, it is possible to use the complete gearbox of 610 into a CR/WXC/Wr 500 /83/84 cases ? The bearing and gearbox axles are the same ?

I have wondered that kind of stuff myself. The number of teeth on the gears in the four strokes for a long time up to perhaps the early 2000's is exactly the same as the 500 xc 1983. I can say that pre 1987 (two stroke don't know about four stroke) the clutch has five springs and is held on with a snap ring and 87-88 has six springs and is held on by a nut. So you would have to use later shafts to use later clutches. That probably would also mean the drive gear on the crank and the kick start gearing as well. I believe it is first gear which has a gear built into the shaft. I tried buying some of the four speed gear sets guys were swapping out for six speed ones on eBay but never went quite strong enough as I didn't know the answer. To be totally honest I have gone through two or three cam chains on my 88 510 and never messed with the clutch even to check on that little reed you are supposed to check. Hopefully someone else can be more definitive.

Are you sure that it cannot be mounted? In comparison of pictures I can see that the 610 cover has one more bolt, but, the other bolts look like are on the same place.

You might state what year 610 you have in mind and also look in the parts sheets and see if the gasket is the same. You would have to be talking about putting the Italian cover on an air cooled two stoke as the water pump got moved to the cam didn't it? I just say Italian from what a dealer told me in the early nineties some of those parts were made in sweeden for a while, though he wasn't talking about covers at the time.
Here is a 1999 te 410 engine looks to me like the bolts are in the same places at least the ones in this picture. Sorry I don't really care enough to take the cover off to give you a definitive answer maybe someone else has one already off and a case half to stick it on.

I do think too, that it could be installed. The only difference is one more bolt under the "agip" sticker. Also, I noticed that from 1982 to 1988 there is another bolt added close and up to the kickstart axle?

As John said the waterpumper cover works just fine. I put one off of my deceased 87-430XC on my 84 WR500. I found a soft plug to put in the hole. Newer shift shaft also has two O-ring grooves instead of one to help prevent leaks. Easy mod on older shafts also.

Hey guys, I was doing reference to the more new engines made by Cagiva, as the kind of clutch cover that Frank mentioned and showed in the picture.
Anyway, is useful yours add with this thread, is kind of the idea to know which parts of others models can fit in different bikes. Why not make a part list with common parts and the possibility to install in which bikes?

I did a superposition of two images of two covers, the new 4 stroke Husky and a water pump old two stroke. Very amateur ! The scale is not 100% right, but I can see that the position of the bolts are the same. There is only one bolt more in the newer cover under the oil plug.

Yes you can put your 610 clutch cover on your 500 1984 motor !

Tu peux mettre tous les carters d'embrayage sur ton moteur de 500 1984.
Par contre ton carter de 500 ne va pas sur un 610 car l'embrayage a un diametre plus gros sur ces derniers.

Now next question, can I put a 610 clutch into a 500 1984 (And others years and engine sizes). I think that the clutch/primary shaft are different.
It will be interesting to know more of the compatibility of the 350/610 cagiva engines.
