PJ1 Filter Cleaner?

I've used it in the past... but currently use the NoToil oil and cleaner. What aspect of it is "weird" Dean?

I don't have a can to read, but the link you provided says:

"Rinses out with soap and water"

Sounds like you used water only. Is there suppose to be some sort of soap component involved, or do you actually just rinse with water and it's suppose to leave a squeaky clean filter?

I generally go by when I can't feel any kind of oily residue... just like if you were holding a brand new, un-oiled filter.
I even look at it inside and out under a magnifying glass for little particles that didn't make it out in the rinse.

That might be overkill... but I've done it like that for a few hundred years, so I'm not going to break tradition now.

I use the PJ1 cleaner as well and am very impressed with how well it works. The first time I used almost a whole can and later realized a good soaking and then wait 15 minutes. Worked great! I don't usually let them get too bad, but I was in a race that was a complete dust storm in August and it worked perfectly. That filter had at least a 1/4 inch coat of dust on it. My rinsing routine is with a hose with some pressure while massaging the filter with one hand. I usually rinse for a good 10 or 15 minutes too. For the record, this stuff will kill grass and stain concrete. I usually spray the cleaner on over an area where I don't want anything to grow.

Twin Air Liquid Dirt Remover, then hot water and Dawn dish soap. The Ancients taught me that the cleaner gets the dirty oil out, but the soap and water gets the dirt out.

Used the PJ1 cleaner and oiler for a few years now on all my bikes. I generally give the filter a good spray with the cleaner and work it in with my hands and let it sit for a while and then just rinse it off with water. Let the filter dry and oil.

I haven't had very good luck with any of those cleaners. I wound up going back to using gasoline. I save about half a gallon in a plastic jug and use it over and over. The dirt settles on the bottom. Not sure sure what I'm going to do when it's time to dispose of it though.

Orange Oil- active ingredient in most bio-cleaners.

Problem is it is no longer bio freindly when the filter-oil mixes in, or soap is used.
Water kills the sovlent action, so I use really soapy, warm water to rinse. (when I used that stuff, which I dont no more)

Most makers say use a sovlent or petrol.
I can clean 3 filters in the same amount of unleaded gas in less of a mess than one with that bio-stuff, and, w/o as much wear and tear to the filter.
Yeh- there's some hydocarbons escaping, please don't get me started.
It's still less of a dent in the earth, esp when it's recycled with waste oil.

Never 'wring' a filter- always knead gently, really gently.

i like no toil for the simple reason that its so easy to clean.

i use the no toil oil and greese. i used up all the no toil cleaner and now i just use oxi clean. im told you can put it all in the washing machine, but i just take atub of hot water and hand rinse. you can dump it down the sink and you done. let it dry and work in your new oil, apply greese and ride baby!

also no fumes like the pj1 stuff, which coul be good or bad depending upon your tastes...

ultimate filter cleaning and oiling

1- dip in mineral spirits to remove oil residue
2- Dawn dish soap to remove leftover oil and dirt
3-24 hour dry and then saturate in twin air oil and wick with paper towels.
maximus odimous dirt keep um out um us stuff.
