please can someone tell me where the o ring goes on water pump?

i just rebuilt the seals n put new bearing aswell on my water pump,i put it together with the spacer and oring face down,o ring first but it still leaked into the gearbox,ive now ordered new spacer n oring but i put it together with oring behind the impeller and it seemed to be holding water,but the book says oring first,well it looks like it does off the parts listing picture.it may be that spacers worn or the seals no good even though its new,ive got another one but i want to find out correct way before swapping them.oh its a wr250 99.thanks
