Does the Power Commander for the EFI bikes improve performance or is it more of an auto tune to keep the bike running at the correct air fuel ratio? When I raced street bikes it was there to improve performance and they did not run exhaust probes to correct air fuel ratios. You would pick a map for what pipe and air filter you had. Then I would take the bike to the dyno and have it fine tuned. It sound like now you just plug it in and it creates a map but keeping the correct air fuel ratio. I know if the correct ratio is meet there it will help performance. I don't if this is making any sense.

Nothing has changed from what you experienced earlier. The PC takes a map that needs to be created. The ones Dynojet created will be on their web site. In addition you can go to a shop and get a custom map made.

All that is exactly the same.

Recently there was a change from the PC III to the PC V for a few reasons, but nothing has changed of significance to the end user.

    *except*

There is now another module that connects to the PC V (only) that also connects to a wide band lambda sensor that screws in where the original Husqvarna lambda sensor was - that will accept parameters such as target afr.

That Auto Tune will slowly add/subtract to the map inside the PC V. Eventually, depending on many factors, that should eliminate the need to go to a tuning center - for the average rider. Nothing will ever replace a high end person that knows what they are doing in a performance shop.

What the auto tune really does for the Husqvarna efi owners: there will never be a huge database of PC maps for the bikes like some other manufacturers have. And there are many many configurations of bike models and exhaust pipes, the auto tune should work well for those people.... and most importantly, if my theories are correct - varying versions of ecu software coming from the Husqvarna factory itself. I believe there are now 15 versions of that software for the 2008/2009 bikes.
