I'm assuming the EFI needs to be adjusted when riding at high altitudes in race mode since this eliminates the O2 sensor and places the bike in an open loop configuration?

No, I don't adjust mine. I regularly ride in Mammoth at over 8000 ft. Racers use oxygenated fuel however.

The EFI systems have an atmospheric pressure sensors that compensated for altitude.

I have a 2010 te250 and just had it up at Mammoth a few weeks ago. It had been running pretty good with the power up and settings of 100,100,100 at my base level of ~2000'. However in Mammoth, it ran like crap and I put the O2 sensor back on and it ran more than unacceptable however it did have an occasional backfire pop. Does this sound like maybe it was just too rich to start with at the 2k' level? Or is it possible the Atmospheric pressure sensor isn't working correctly? How would one check that or would I expect to see an error message on the display or Ibeat?
