So I put a new pipe and silencer on a 12 wr300. It didn't come with a rubber pipe joint ( from the expansion chamber to silencer). So I called pro circuit. They said I do not need one. Well first ride I fired it up and rode it for 10 min. Oil everywhere! Am I missing something? Should I have put some exhaust silicone on it?? Thanks in advance

Shock to exhaust clearance was to little to get the big rubber grommet it came with from the factory...appeared to be different designs.

Yeah, not enough clearance to use the stock one, and it definitely needs something.

What I did was use some redneck engineering and make one from aluminum foil, duct tape, and zip ties. Did the trick, but still had a bit of a leak. Adding some high temp silicon under that would probably do the trick.

Well I guess I'll use some hi temp silicone. I'm not putting anything on the outside of it, just the inside of the joint. "Tech support" at pro circuit said it didn't need anything. If it doesn't work I guess lesson learned and it will be FMF from here on out.

yeah don't use the oem grommet they split(I lost 2 before realising). watch your rear brake line also(lost one from melting & another almost-just push the frame tab that holds brake line in towards RHS footpeg closer to it). hi temp silicone will sort it, they are a pretty tight fit already so you don't need much.

I used a little high temp silicone on mine and it seems to be working great-although I only have one ride on it.

My experience with pro-circuit and their tech people was very positive and I love my new pipe and exhaust. I didn't think it would be as noticeable as it was but it was a huge improvement over stock.

My bike came with a PC Platinum 2 pipe and 304 silencer. I now have the Type 296. I haven't had a rubber piece there since I bought it almost two years ago and I get very little if any oil coming out of the pipe.

Same here. PC2 with type 296 and no grommet with no leakage. I do have the 2 o rings that are on the expansion chamber, but no grommet for inside where the pipe mounts/slides into the head.

allright...good news hi temp silicone sorted it. next issue..for you guys that installed the pipe, did you need to fatten your jetting up? Mine is an absolute BEAR to start if its too rich or lean. I kicked and kicked and kicked...finally with some starting fluid it fired, ran it for 15 min and pulled the plug, not a plug chop per say but still gives the overall jetting condition...gray and not tan. Jetting was spot on before. all I can say is good thing I didn't listen to pro circuit and lean it out to cure oil coming out of the joint.

After I kicked on it for an hour and got it started I let it come up to temp for a few min the rode it down some trails by my house. Hit all circuits on the carb.

Sorry, can't help on that one. I was a Lectron convert before I picked up my PC pipe. I usually tweak my air screw slightly after a warm up anyway, so if I didn't notice a major difference, but that's not apples to apples.
