Well, it wasnt a hard decision, sold my 07 KTM 300EXC and bought the 09 300.

My only initial thoughts for mods are:

Re -valve of forks (iv heard the Maz are not that good off the shelf)
IMS Gas tank 3.4 (or 3.9gal if it fits the 09?)
    Change front 14tooth sproket to a 15
    Fit 19inch rear rim
    Fit Scorpion desert tire
Remove the emission tubes from under the tank.
Fit Race spec front pipe (comes free with bike) :)

    Couple of quick questions,

The bike was fitted with a solid rear disc brake rotor. Is this correct from factory? Looks like it belongs on a Go-cart :S

Are there power valve spring options for the wr300 ? (as with the ktm 300)

Is there any benefit to changing the rear pipe to an FMF or similar ?
The factor one is quite long in comparison to the FMF race pipes.

Are there any pics or details around of the 3.9gal IMS tank on an 09?
There was mention of it being quite wide compared to the 3.4gal option.

I need as much fuel as I can get/carry :)

    Cheers

The solid rotor is correct. It's nice for mud riding, but it eats brake pads quickly.

The only benefit to changing out the silencer would be weight savings. The US spec OEM silencer worked fine, but it was large and heavy.

CH member oregonsage has the 3.9gal tank and posted pics in here: http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showpost.php?p=123698&postcount=17

If you ride high speed and open areas then you'll be much happier with a revalve as they're sprung pretty soft. Both front and rear.

    Thanks for the reply PC.
If the forks are too soft once I test her out wouldnt it be better to respring the front and (possbly) the rear before a revalve? My (ex) 09 Husky 510 was a bit harsh on the suspension side of things. I thought this might be the same but seems its the opposite.

The tank you menetioned appears to be the 3.7gal Clarke (from another post I read)
I thought IMS made a 3.9. Will try to find info it.

    Thanks for the feedback

Yes 3.7 Clarke. It is quite a lot of fuel. A 90+ min GP race uses about half a tank.

Our Baja races are around 200klm in the desert, 90% of that being sand dunes. If I can do the entire race with only one fuel stop that would be great :)

You can get power valve springs for it. I will let you know shortly what brand they are. Just got back from Holidays & they are on the floor of my truck & havn't unpacked it yet.

I thought solid rotors are supposed to do the opposite, be less hard on the pads in wet conditions.

My pads are holding up well after 93 hrs, even including 20 or so of horrendous downpour and muddy enduro racing.

I think the solids are the choice in mud cause the vent holes dont get packed with mud and rubbed across the pads, but they offer more contact surface and heat which eats pads. Or so I've been told.

I barely got 60hrs out of my stock rear pads, but I'm a brake dragger. But my yz pads last forever, so its gotta be the solid rotor. Or super soft pad material :excuseme:

    correct.

discs are drilled for "cooling" or so they say. they also reduce weight and gyroscopic effect. ligher gyros (wheels) = quicker turning.
mud and stuff gets packed in the holes and then pad life goes down to zero.

solid rotors are great for adverse conditions.

all things equal pad life depends on their composition.

The only thing I dont like about this bike initially is the little kickstarter.Im sure someone who liked KTM's more than Huskys designed that thing.
