Hey moose, I had one of those. Great bike. I'm not sure it's as easy as just swapping wheels. The front brake disk is much larger than the TE version so the caliper mount is different. Mounted higher up on the fork tube. You may be able to mount the original disc on the new wheels but because of its size I think it hangs a little low for trail riding. I have bent a couple of the smaller discs on my TE from rocks. They are pretty expensive to replace and the SMR disc costs even more. I'm sure there are some more knowledgeable folks here that will chime in. If you just want to get a little more dualsport action you could put some 17" rain tires on. They work pretty well for the mellower dirt riding.

    Good luck

    you're right fella.

I run a 510TE with both on and off-road wheels.

2 minor issues you'll run into are.
    1. Gearing. Your road chain will be too short for decent off-road gearing (luckily for me i'm an off-road novice so not an issue)
    2. bracketry for brake. I can take a pic of your required caliper mount for the 17" and swaps but actually it will be pretty easy for you in a way as you just need a mount for a 510TE caliper of which there are several on Ebay as we speak.

All of this is of course making a few assumptions,
    1. You're running simillar forks to me.
    2. My caliper is 65mm spacer for mounts like yours as i believe you run a Brembo P4 on the SMR compared to the more basic one for me.

But anyway, the basic logic is there. You need a disk mount bracket :)

Yep, this is what I do on my SM610. I've got a few different knobbies that I can run and it works great for getting me from Point A to Point B in the dirt, mud, sand and snow. Not totally ideal for real berm-busting trail riding, but works better than anyone would suspect
    Much cheaper, too.
