So hopefully some collective wisdom on this sight can help me figure this out ... My son and I picked up a 2003 Suzuki RM125 several weeks ago, in very good shape, but we are going through it as a project together. Anyway, the trans oil capacity is 750 ml, clearly marked. It takes about 950 ml to fill the trans using the oil level check hole. The bike was warmed up after filling and then allowed to sit, bike is being checked level. I looked over the clutch cover, etc. and everything appears to be appropriate stock RM125, so I just don't see how the extra 200 cc can be accounted for. Any ideas ?
Well I have thought about this and the only conclusion I can come to is the extra oil is entering another compartment. Most likely the crankcase. The bike is running rich and now I wonder if it is burning trans oil? He is going to ride it and see if the trans oil drops. I suspect a bad seal = time to split cases to inspect everything?
I plan to check tomorrow. I'll post the findings. It turns out that the right side crank seal can be changed without splitting the cases.
There really isn't anywhere else for it to go. I wouldn't expect it to run very well with 200cc of gear oil in the bottom end. How long does it take when you are filling it with oil the get the full 950cc into it? Does it go pretty fast or more like a slow trickle?
The bike was run for about 2 hours and the trans oil has not dropped a bit. I think to confirm, will just run it one more time, drain the oil, refill it with the specified amount and recheck.
I have a 2006 TE 510 with the oil level bolt in the wrong place. also have two 125 Yamaha Grizzlys that say 1250ml on the crankcase beside dipstick but take 1450 to fill to top of dipstick
