Dudes, What is it with Yorkshire? I mean I often hear it referred to in English humor but have no clue what the comic is implying? It appears something derogotory. In the USA, I have no clue what the reference is though. Can someone enlighten me? Are the people from Yorkshire different? Is the landscape there odd? Thanks, Joe
It was 2 Yorkshire people that invented copper wire fighting over an old penny Im in the next county down (Lincolnshire although im from Wales originally) and have a lot of Yorkshire mates but theyre tight as a ducks arse and they have a real dry sense of humour (suits me but can upset some) and they can be a bit blunt. There is a lot of moorland in Yorkshire and the weather is drab usually (more so than the rest of Britain unless you include some parts of Lancashire). To be fair i don't think Americans understand the whole of Britains sense of humour as a rule. We tend to take the piss so to speak but god forbid any outsiders that try it. We dont do the big open laugh thing, stiff upper lip even in humour, weve had thousands of years of having to sneer in the face of adversity. The times ive been to the USA (got a lot of family over there) i've been told to laugh at my own jokes to show i am joking if you see what i mean. Saying that, my Brother in law is a Bostonian and he appreciates the sense of humour (and beer, pubs etc) over here
Piss taking and sarcasm, the best bits of Welsh humour , even those weird English guys find it hard to put up with sometimes Have to admit I do curb it quite a bit on international forums, because I have found out the hard way not everyone gets it or appreciates it
i try to curb my mad sense of humour but my typically rough glaswegian sarcasm always rears its ugly head ... usually with heavy insults/piss taking and derisory remarks along with the obligatory swear word too but i try to behave on here though....and i also have it in writing now.. "yorkshiremen are the inventors of copper wire.... not the Scots ! " gotcha !
