Well, I bought my wr250, I took my carb apart, cleaned it ( the pilot jet was plugged solid), and it brought it to life big time. Loads of crisp power and great throttle response. But, I seem to have fuel dumping out of the overflow ever now and then. I took the float needle and seat out during the cleaning. The seat's o ring didn't look the greatest. Could that be the problem? Fuel passing through the back side of the seat even while the float has the needle pushed up properly? Also, please don't make fun ( this is a dumb moment for me), I should've been paying more attention, but I'm not sure if I put the floats in right or upside down ( again, I should have been paying more attention). Any of u guys know if the high side of the black floats points up or down? Or could my problem just be the needle seat outer o ring? Any help is greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get this bike A-1. Thanx.

I've had that needle float oring issue before ... Usually, with the oring issue, I get small, sporadic leaking from the over-flow as compared to the needle not seating correctly where I get a pretty steady stream of fuel out the overflow ...

One of my bikes sat too long and my CARB was clogged pretty bad also ... I had to soak the needle itself in wd-40 to get that cushion-pin inside it to free up also...Probably not your issue but I thought I would toss it out ...

Not sure but I don't think you can put the floats in up-side down and get anything to work properly .. Just a guess

    Ok, thanx ray_ray.

It sounds like I need to replace the o ring then. I hope I have one that's thick enough in my kit. I figured I had the floats in right, just wanted to check as I wasnt sure what was wrong.

What cushion pin are u referring too? Maybe I should look into that while I have the carb apart again. But as u said, chances are, it's the o ring bypassing. Thanx.

The needle that hangs off the floats has a pin on the same side as the floats that is spring loaded to provide some cushion as the floats rise and the pointed end of the needle closed off the fuel supply. Mine was locked solid but after a few days in WD40, it freed up' as did all my clogged jets. Probably a non-issue in your case...

I need to replace a couple of those orings right now :( ...I've had limited results from trimming too-fat orings down to size and using them from time to time here..

There is always the chance the floats are set wrong and you can get some overflow from that but there should be other symptoms in that case I think ..

just going to put this out there carb cleaner is brilliant for clining carbs, also gaffitti cleaner workd extreamly well and doesnt evaporate.
the float valve had a triton tip these bad into the seat and look like a dimpled ring around the mating surface if thats the case replace it, if not move on to the o ring and the plastic holder, is the o ring cracked a small bit or grit in where the o ring was just seated? if alls good check the plastic holder and cracks?
if no to all of these i give up maybe you should burn your bike...
or bend the tand on the floats up a little so it shuts off with more force earlyer;)

rayrays right about not being able to put floats in upside down.

Well, I'm certainly not going to burn my bike over something that is obviously just a simple part to solve the issue...

I just put a new o ring in the seat and presto! No more leak. Thanx for the help guys.
