    Hi

I'm hoping not to have to buy a new muffler for my 2010 TE250. Does any one know of a "bought" not made quiet insert with a sparky that would fit the stock muffler? The SA that comes with the bike says "arrow" on it but I'm unable to find any thing on line.

Sorry about bringing this up again but...

    Thanks
    Doug

    Check with ScottyR.

I believe his mechanic, Rob, has been manufacturing something along the lines of what you're asking for. But, from what I recall, it works with the stock SA.

I'm not certain if it works for 2010 models, but it's worth asking.

The Husky part # for the dB Killer is 8000H0827. I think it only works on the 09 and up models, the ones w/ the cat in the mid pipe. There were significant changes done to the exhaust system for the 09 models. I think it will work w/ all the Arrow performance exhausts, but I'm not sure.

It works well to cut down the noise. As for power loss I have not really been able to test it due to the weather, but I guess because of its more restrictive nature I will loose some top end / max rpm HP, but on the other hand I will gain a bit of low to mid end torque, which is more practical for trail riding.

Anyway the minimal loss of HP is worth the noise reduction. I'm a big proponent of trading lightly both on the trail and the ears. This is the only way we will be able to preserve our riding areas. (Hopping off the soap box now... )

Did anyone hear of a short db killer. That might be the ticket. A little more noise reduction than stock sa but not as restrictive as the long db killer.

You could just drill out the long dB killer

Yea that would be good. I ordered the racing ecu with short db killer but i am still waiting for it. The long db killer i think is 8 inches long. It has to be a little better than stock sa.

I guess I'm a bit confused. The new bike came with a sparky, which is just a screen insert with nothing else. The bike did come with a long quiet insert but it has no screen with it. For California we need of course quiet plus a spark arrestor as well. Here is what came with my bike.

I'm not sure if this new muffler is indeed along the same lines as last years muffler or not but I'm so far I'm to understand it is a totally different exhaust. Now maybe there might be a low noise sparky that fits but that is what I'm trying to figure out.

doug,I would tack weld a screen at the small end on the long one included with your bike,it looks like the same piece I had modified for mine

The only thing the forest service does is stick a wire down the muffler and see if it hits something.

In Calif.: technically it needs to have a USFS stamp as well as pass a probe test. Some will let you in with just passing the probe test if the mesh is the right gauge.

    Just a heads up/FYI.

well the spark arrestor insert doesnt have a stamp on it anyway, maybe the muffler has the stamp?would be very very hard to judge the gauge of the wire eight inches in the pipe,my custom bent piece is even harder to verify, stick a probe in there and it just hits the bend in the pipe!

Yes, the muffler has/should have a stamp on the can.

They can/sometimes probe with a wire of a certain diameter. If it goes through the screen, fail.

the spark arrestor that cam with my bike has "arrows" name and that it is approved stamped on it. so it is legal it is just way too loud.

The last 3 or 4 times my old bike was "probed" they also looked for the stamping on it as well. this is why I've been kind of pushing for a name brand SA.

    Thanks all

This is what I did to my 2010 250 TXC. I machined out the inside of the spark arrester to 1 5/16th" and welded on a down spout. Outlet diameter went from 15/16 th" to 1 5/16th ". But it's still too loud. Although in took some crack out of it and it does sound quieter. Gramps

Short DB Killer part numbers (from page 25 of the 2010 special parts catalog):
    COD. 8000H2002 per TE310
    COD. 8000H2003 per TE450
    COD. 8000H2004 per TE510

I don't know if they have the spark arrester screen in them (guessing not). The actual muffler can on my 2009 TE310 is stamped as having a USFS approved spark arrestor.
