I'm fairly certain my 2014 Strada has the lastest firmware. I bave a 15T sprocket, Pulstar plugs, pod mod, cat delete and canister delete witht the purge valve removed and the port capped. I've been using the Dobeck EJK for the BMW application with great success. The bike is a little grumpy when cold. I have to keep the revs up and slip the clutch a little more. It works great most of the time. I've not had a stall since the EJK was installed. I used to tune my own FI systems in my cars. The one thing that annoys the crap out of me is how badly scaled the air temp sensor is. It's way too lean when hot and waaaay to rich when cold. This time of year the temps can vary greatly depending on where I'm at in town. When I come back from my friends house I'll go thru the river bottoms and it can get down right cold. The transition from warm to cold is immediatly noticeable in the bike. The engine gets lazy and sounds labored. I wish I could unplug the damn thing...
Do not replace the temp sensor with a resistor and do not relocate it, it is snake oil, the sensor is needed exactly where it is, the sensor is one which is used very widely in the auto industry and does the job it is supposed to do, all these other claims are without facts
Hi Mark. Thanks for posting this very informative thread. Just bought a Terra and have the same issues with cutting out, fluffiness, etc. can you please enlighten me further. I am not very mechanical... ".....was running a Dyna-Boost, Brisk Plugs" - are these available in the Philippines, and if so where? Also, I read in another of your (I believe) posts of a spacer for the sensor on the exhaust. Do you still make these and if so how much are they please? ".......removed the purge valve and plugged the hose to the throttle body" - does "plugged" mean attached to or sealed the hose (as in using a rubber vacuum cap of 3/8") 'scuse my ignorance, but I want to do my Canisterectomy all in one day with no problems and my understanding is limited and don't want to make irreversible mistakes....,but I am getting there knowledge-wise due to your and others extremely informative posts. Thanks in advance!
Definitely the "Silver Bullet" I have finally got the perfect running Strada and have tested it in all conditions, hot in traffic, open road etc. The bike was good with the Dyna-Boost fitted and although no longer stalling, I still experienced the occasional fluffiness particularly when it was hot. It also had the pinging/detonation noise when accelerating, plus the 'raggy' engine braking which made it not very smooth to ride. So it was good but not perfect, which led me to do a few more experiments. So now I have a 2013 bike with 5000 km on it, as far as I know, the Map 1, ie non updated firmware - K&N Filter, Dyna-Boost, Brisk Plugs, De-Cat, Cannisterectomy and Purge Valve removed/pugged, AIT Sensor in the air intake, 15/49 sprockets and the final piece of the jigsaw - a 124 Injector fitted. The new injector has made a huge difference and now the bike runs smooth as silk, it is much quieter and runs a lot cooler too. Although with the pinging/detonation noise gone, the throttle feels a bit limp, ie no noise or clatter under acceleration, and also there is much less engine braking than before. However the reduction in noise has made the bike so smooth and nice to ride and now instead of listening to the engine, I have to use the speedo a lot more to keep a check on how fast I am going. Before we go any further and somebody tries to shoot this down, the ECU does not know it is overfuelling with the bigger injector and because the Dyna-Boost is spoofing the Lambda and telling the ECU that the AFR is perfect - it will not try to apply trims and reduce the fuelling, so it is not going to 'learn' which means for me this is a permanent fix and i don't give a damn about the 10% extra fuel consumption either. This is it, end of fuel/ignition mods, end of trying to get the bike to run perfectly - the "Silver Bullet" worked and it is BIG BIG thanks to Kiwiape for his pioneering work on the injector - brilliant.
Magnum Dyna Boost, Pulstar Plugs, lnjector seemed to make the biggest improvement, EarthX battery seems to have "cured" the occasional mis-fire 22,000klms Also, the printed 3D unifilter mod, GPR single can exhaust, AIT in right-hand wing, infront of radiator, oil cooler, stainless oil filter, suspension by Shocktreatment, upgraded drive chain, upgraded drive hub bearings, Safari long-range tank, LED headlight, Andy Strapz pannier bags, Mitas e-10 front, Mefo 99 rear What else ??
Lots more for you to do - including : Moving the Voltage Regulator to where the Cannister is fitted on a US bike, so the black plastic cover fits how BMW designed it to be. Change out the silly peeper horn to a pair of Bosch or Fiamms or even better a Denali Sound Bomb split unit. Rewire the headlight so it is not on all the time. Fit 15/49 sprockets and love the increased acceleration. Fit R&G Tail Tidy and LED Indicators Re-model the seat for a more comfortable ride. Evans Waterless Coolant and on it goes !
I totally agree and for the price paid, this has to be the best value 'total fix' package for the lean stumble issues. Especially for guys like me who have zero access to any real dealers and any form of MOSS/OSS or other way of updating the firmware.
I agree the Pulstar plugs helped, the fuel injector helped. But now I have the PCV with Tinken's map. It is a blast. Fuel mileage went down, but I was doing 85 to 90 mph on the freeway. I was keeping up with traffic, it can get crazy on the 10 freeway.
Maybe an uprated after market VR might be in order My riding, especially if mag00 can organise the Rekluse clutch would be a 17 tooth The LED indicators when the present bulbs fail as they are offset pin bayonet, not conventional I'm looking at producing thermosat replacements to improve coolant flow I have already modified the sear cushion, also replaced the 6 hard rubber seat blockes with heavy duty foam - the seat now feels part of the bike
I'm running a Goldentyre 216AA up front and a Perilli MT21 in the rear. Make sure you ballance everything. I just use a Harbor Frieght tire ballancer. I use the good brass spoke wieghts and use locktite on the set screw.
Well I got out for a little while this past weekend after the BMW guys OSS'ed me. Wow what a difference. So now I have the magic spark plugs, 10% injector, cored out mufflers and foam air filter from down under. The BMW shop cleared the adaptation tables, wrench icon, and updated the software. The result is nothing short of spectacular. This thing flat ass runs......I could get in trouble on this thing now
