Hey drzcharlie, i just posted in thread 'Got OSS' concerning reflashing ECU. Spoke with Tyson Taylor customer service at KTM hq. From what i understand, and i assure you i struggle to understand such electronics. That as it sits right now KTM and Husky dealerships diagnostics tool XC1 is enabled to do diagnostics on the TR. However so far as adaptations, updates, remapping - 'reflash'. The ECU is returned to hq via dealer network for such updates. I'll also add that Tyson assured me KTM is doing everything in it's power to support us with the TR 'red' devision.
KTM could care less about us. Having us all send back our ECU is a ridiculous resolution. Honestly, what incentive do they have to help us at all?
As posted in "Canadians with TR and stalling issues" thread. Ive had my bike in my local KTM dealer for over a month. It's due to the Recall set forth by the Canadian Government on the TR650. Spoke to the service rep yesterday actually (Jan 20th, 2016) and they are waiting for KTM to send them the "Recall kit". When I asked WTF that was, he said it was the equipment and hardware to flash and add the newest firmware to the ECU plus clear codes like my stupid wrench light. Said it supposed to do the exact same as the old BMW MOSS system. Not sure what to say to that since Canada has never had access to the MOSS from Husky and the BMW dealers refused to even try and hook it up. That's even pre-sale to KTM. Not to sound rude but you guys in other countries who only recently lost access to MOSS or OSS or what ever it is now......cry me a river lol. Canadians have had zero support from day 1, Less of a warranty than tail light warranty. I'm in no rush since it's January and I'm on the Atlantic coast of Canada, with a crap load of snow and -20 wind chills. I just consider it to be free winter storage lol. Like I stated in the mentioned thread, soon as I get delivery of my Terra from Freedom Cycle ill post the latest firmware version etc and what the "recall Kit" actually did. If there is such a kit being sent to KTM/Husky dealers, that might be something that you guys in other countries with no recall could inquire about with your local dealers? To be honest I kinda hoped Husky would just give me a wicked trade in appraisal and credit towards the new 701. Not going to hold my breath on that one lol.
Correct. The BMW tech did not get the number but said the system listed the program as "up to date". He then cleared the adaptation logs and service Icon. I had changed the injector and plugs out, serviced the air filter when I took it in. The pipes had been cored out for a while now. Very smooth with a lot faster rev out. Power sure feels like its up...and not just a little. The bike really runs well. Super happy with it.
My local husky guys said the same thing...waiting.....I just let them think I am still down...The BMW shop is new here and willing to work with you....and I think they want to sell me a Gs1200 LOL
Well i'm sure we've all got an axe to grind with our bastard child. If anyone needs more specific questions answered. You might want to talk to Tyson Taylor - 951 600 8007 ext -4102. I'm just posting this for others that may not be aware of the current status regards diagnostics and ECU revisions. I agree it ain't the best solution. But as someone else has stated, it's better than nowt!
Step 1 complete - I installed the Pulstar plugs this past weekend. My plan is to ride the bike for a few hundred miles before deciding whether to install the new fuel injector.
KTM NA is clearly not doing the right thing, the Husky Dealers in Oz have had access to everything needed to do the updates for something like 6 months, KTM Canada is clearly acting to get the software to their Dealers and you dont hear any cries from the EU owners from what I can see. For the US it seems it is time to agitate some more with NHTSA and perhaps also point out any BMW Dealer can sort it out, it is only Administrative decisions preventing it In terms of any Dealer telling you a machine is "up to date" I would always ask for the operations report so you can see for yourself what the version number is and whether it was updated. I can quote too many examples of BMW owners being old their machines were "up to date" only to find later they were not
I said ages ago the BMW guys can work on our bikes. So I suggest you take a copy of this thread to your local BMW Motorrad dealer (if they refuse and request they reconsider).
I agree, after speaking with KTM hq, appealing NHTSA a third time and exhausting all dealers within a 100 mile radius. I finally got my local BMW dealership in San Francisco to agree to diagnostics. They couldn't state wether they were capable of the latest firmware revisions. But if the dealership in Posser Wa is enabled. I can't see why not. WayneC offers a file on his website so a diagnostic cross reference will show what's what.
The latest TR650 revisions are; Digital Engine Electronics #8543015 (this is the ECU program or incorrectly referred to as the MAP) ABS #8538816 (only on ABS versions) Instrument Panel #8543235 (dash) So, unless you have these numbers on your bike you do not have the latest that Husky/BMW released.
Great info, thanks. The big problem that we all have is lack of dealer support and ability to find out exactly what firmware our bikes have and of course getting it re-mapped is a totally different story and has so far proved near on impossible to achieve.
I guess we here in Sydney are fortunate to have WayneC with his GS911 & Dahlitz Motorcycles in Canberra with the Firmware update capability
I got my Terra through a diagnostics revision courtesy of BMW SF. At request of WayneC i got a print out of the operations report. It clearly shows for DME (digital engine electronics ECU) Old -8532185 and New-8543016 update successful. Despite now knowing my bike has the current firmware. It has stalled twice during the 150 mile stint yesterday. First within 2 blocks of the dealership. Idle runs higher and fluncuative. For some reason they adjusted the clutch way out of my familiar comfort range. So that didn't help whilst navigating traffic in the city. But either way, it certainly hasn't gained any confidence in the stumble stall dept since this procedure. It does seem to pick up a little earlier in power curve. Particularly 2800 to 3200rpm. But doesn't display a rock solid idle or sense it won't think twice about stalling. There's also some over run when shifting. So quite the mixed bag at present. I have the Pulstar plugs on hand and the larger injector arrived yesterday. Just awaiting the revised 3D printed filter from down under. Also a GPR single to throw into the mix. Just a little leary about how to proceed. Ideally i'd like to get things a little more stable before adding any of the above into the mix. Probably just the plugs to start. But any suggestions so far as the post revision state of tune?
Hi Thumper may I suggest how l eventually worked thru' all the crap - Dahiltz (Canberra) had loaded the latest firmware 1/ Pulstar spark plug (amazing improvement - gap at 0.7 mm) 2/ 3D printed air Uni filter plus "repaired' airbox 3/ Re-located AIT sensor (plug the oem airbox hole) 4/ GRP single can 5/ EarthX battery (maintains cranking voltage & is much lighter) 6/ Dyna-Boost unit - (this is by far the very best of ALL the spoofers) 7/ Larger fuel injector 8/ Home-made quick action throttle Also:- SS oil filter & oil cooler, LED headlight, Safari tank Suspension:- Terry Hay at Shock Treatment, modified the forks to both compression & rebound damping plus 15mm pre-load to compensate for safari tank, rear shock, 9.8kg spring to replace 10.3kg & re-valve to suit me I've been working with WayneC for some time now
Thumpa, it sounds like they did not do an adaption reset, go back and advise them of what has occured re the uneven idle and stalling EngineerK9, relocating the AIT is bad news and will cause problems, as for the DynaBoost, very doubful it does anything
Thanks for the feedback. I can see Wayne's comment below, as i recall him mentioning this about AIT. I might be tempted to spring for an EarthX or similar Li battery once i get things running smoothly. Quick action throttle sounds interesting!
Thanks Wayne, i'll do a follow up with them tomorrow, but this would make sense. Also be sending you the copies of operations report. Thanks for all the support in walking me through this!
