I had my trusty 08 wr 125 sold so I took the 165 kit off ( keeping that ) and put back on a near new 125 top end . Done cylinder change a few times but I was a bit blaze' about it maybe
Well l I learnt a lesson the hard way . I either didn't seat the circlip well enough or re-using the circlips was a bad idea. :naughty:
Riding the bike slowly up the road it all came un stuck . :busted: :censored:
Luckily some of the good people on this web site were willing to help and I had a few options . Ive got a replacement on its way at a very fair price from Walt . Thanks Walt :notworthy:

It looks like a fairly long - 30mm piece is embedded vertically into the cylinder and there was about 7mm loose above the piston - so it was scraped up the side.
My only concern at the moment is making sure there isn't any circlip in the bottom end .
I will measure the remains but not 100% sure at the moment what happened to the other clip
I don't want to have to do is again or sell a problem .
I am wondering about removing the motor to turn it upside to flush it out .
It seems to be moving ok .
    Any tips ?
Apart from get a mechanic to do it next time  or suggestions of a 177 kit
    thanks

top ends off ? look down through the crank gap with the big end to one side look where the big end would rotate throught in the crack case if there is any debre it usually gets squashed and dragged around by the big end.
    still cant find it?
do a few slow rotations by hand holding smallend and listen for any unusual graunchy sounds circlips are very big object for the bottom end to eat so double check everything.
more than likley if you didnt seat one circlip well you may of forgotten the other, ive been re using my circlips for years with out trouble.

It had two on there . The one that was already on the 10hr old piston - it came off and did damage . I remember putting the other one on the right side - went on easily though . No visible damage on that side on cylinder. Clip groove a bit unclean maybe. Unless it came off before I got the cylinder on .
Tried turning over quite fast by hand and feels fine. Can see to the bottom of motor and nothing visible.
If it is down the bottom is it possible that it can be flicked up again ?
Is premixed fuel best thing to use to flush motor?
(It looks like there was some coolant in the fuel/oil mix - I think that was my head gasket on the 165 that had stretched)

On my old old bike, I had a wrist pin bearing explode inside the engine, we had little shards of metal in the bottom end.

We got everything out by turning the motor upside down and flushing it with premixed gas, slowly rotating the crank using the rod and picking out any pieces of metal that we saw. It worked well for us, there was no grinding sound or feel when the crank was rotated. I went on to use that bottom end for a few seasons until we sold the bike - no issues for us.

IMO, I'd flush it out as good as possible, and if it looks/feels fine, try to run it. Worst case scenario, you damage the bottom end and end up getting a 177 anyway (which is what you were thinking of doing already, haha)

Is it possible to lose a clip without it touching the bore?

Did you pull out the motor?

I would of thought so, its only three bolts and a few wiring clips an sprocket now.
If there is no sign of debris in the crank area i would flush it out with pre mix and not worry, the curclips if not installed properly can flick off at an awe-inspiring speed.

Circlip coming out of a running engine without damaging anything i will just go ahead and say if its not impossible its not possible on purpose! The very nature of where it is would have to go through transfer port and float up ontop of piston combust and out exhaust, signs would be everywhere, head piston crown

Garden hose and soap the bottom end out. If you can flip it over all the better. I'd take the carb/reeds off and pipe off, drip some soap in the intake and stick the hose in the intake and put a rag around it and completely flush the bottom end really good. You need flow and to get the sticky gas/oil so it will not hold shards. Then immediately air hose it out and flush with premix. Might sound extreme but so is a hardened clip shard taking out your bottom end.

Yes. You need to be able to flip the engine upside down. I pulled everything off the engine, besides the side covers obviously. You need gravity on your side for this one.

What Moto just said is right. It's even more thorough than what I did. Just make sure you do the last step that he mentioned (flush with premix gas) to get all of the old water/soap out.

When my wrist pin exploded, it amazingly did nothing to the cylinder wall or the ports. The head looked like someone shot it with a shotgun though. When it happened to me, I just had to replace the head and the piston.

Based on the pics though, it looks like the cylinder might be damaged. but i'm no expert
