as my bike is down for the count I am exploring options..
local dealer has TE 250 and 300 and gasgas EC 250 and 300 in stock..gasgas is $500 less..

I am wondering..what's the real world difference between 250 and 300? I am in north NJ, so it's mostly tight, slippery and rocky and I most likely will get rekluse.

goal is to find easiest to ride bike..

    any opinions are welcome!

I find a 250 has plenty of torque for the rocky technical stuff, and is easier to ride faster longer, but I only weigh 150lbs. If I were heavier/stronger I might prefer a 300.

I prefer the 250's over 300 for my needs. Plenty of power with the 250's, feel lighter, EZer to jet etc.

On subject of jetting, will my Lectron work on new Te250? Isn't there a TPS sensor on there?

No TPS on the Keihin on TE250/300.

I vote 250, as it feels lighter, revs better, vibrates less and has lots of torque. If you go over to KTM Talk and ask about 250/300's in the 2 stroke section, the vote will overwhelmingly be for the 300. Those guys believe a 300 will cure everything from your kid's diaper rash, to global warming. Guys ask for 250 jetting advice and someone will inevitably tell him to put a 300 kit on it to fix it.

I'd go Husky, but GG is a good choice too. If you're going to pay retail hold out for a '15, as Husky has improved the airbox reinforcement. I can't remember if GG has aluminum subframe again in '14 or '15, but I'd get GG with aluminum one.

    Thanks!!

I am leaning towards 250 husky but Gasgas is still in my thoughts. I think husky is smarter choice because of aftermarket and parts availability and resale value. And it has better estart and lighter. I think suspension also goes to husky. Also, forum support is clear husky win!!

Gasser has aluminum subframe for 2014 model and it's bit lower. Coolest looking and more loaded from crate it seems.

    It's a tough call.

I fully see your point about paying retail now for 2014 model, but if I would be logical I would not ride dirt bike In the first place :). (According to my wife) and I want to ride right now. Holiday week delayed my wr300 repair..

Ride a 300 before you buy one at the end of the day when your exhausted, then ride a 250.

Beta 300, other brands 250s. The Beta is smoother and not overdone late in the day. I used to hate 300s and only rode 250s. GGs handle well, good power, but the details and QC bullshit will drive you nuts after dropping big coin.

250 doesn't vibe as much in my limited experience, the 250 feels lighter , weird but true (for me) and I just sold my 13 300exc, hated it ! :D
    I realised I am a 4t man, won't own another 2t (he says after 3 of them straight, 10 tm300, 06 tm300(axe murderer of a bike) and a 13 300exc.

FWIW, my GasGas EC300 vibrates less than a KTM built 250 2t.

I'm 230 without gear and a TC85 wouldn't be what's holding me back lol. If I were undecided I'd probably just go with a 250. More because it's easy enough to make it a 300 later. There seems to be so many mods for these bikes that you can turn the power into whatever you prefer even if you stick with a 250. Look up Slavens Racing and get on his email list. He has tons of videos and write ups for everything you can imagine. He seems to favor 2 strokes and that'd help you out.

@ 165 in riding gear go 250 2t all day. I would need a 300 for my almost 100lbs more. At my weight I think a 300 fits me for low speed torque and lofting the front wheel in tight stuff.

WTF? OP was talking GG as option.

I'm in north NJ, no more local GG dealer. He's a KTM/Husky/Beta dealer now. You must mean dealer in PA?

Much of the vibe level has to do with the level of detail at assembly and balance of the crank(with the piston).
