Hope someone on here might be able to help me with a problem on the bike....

noticed a couple of rides back that there was a slight "i know its there because i ride it all the time" vibration. If someone else rode it, they wouldn't feel it, but i knew there was something.

I went over the bike, first giving it a service, and checking the valve clearances etc, with no joy. Then went over the bike from front to back, checking things as i went, and found nothing until i got to the silencers, and thought that one was a little loose, so sorted it out, and went for a ride.... still there.... although now seemed worse, and if i stood off the bike, it stopped, and if i sat down hard on the seat, it got worse still.

Figured from that it must be suspension related? so put the bike on stands, and looked underneath the back end..... to find a small worn out hollow in the swing arm and the spring/shock touching the swing arm too!

Anyone on here have the same problem, and is it the bearings gone? or could a bolt be sheared?

Don't have my workshop built at the minute, so have nowhere to check the bike over properly, but thought i would ask on here, to get an idea before i start anything when the shop is built.

is the shock shaft bent? From the bottom picture, if you sight up the clevice, it doesn't look right. could just be the angle of the pic

I don't see the spring retainer in the photos. If it's gone or off the spring can hit the swingarm.

Ding ding...I think we have a winner!

it does look like the collar is missing.

    Is that an aftermarket spring?
Maybe it is the wrong size for that shock and someone ditched the collar?

looking at the pdf manual, the shock looks the same as the one on my bike, and the cone shaped part at the bottom, which is on my bike, is on the one in the pdf? but i might be missing something, as i have never worked on one of these bikes before. I think this time, as i have no workshop, and wont have one for a couple of months, that i am going to give it to the local dealers, and let them sort it out. Pains me, as i always do work myself, but needs must with no room to work. :( thank you for your ideas, and i will let them know before i take it in what it might be. :)

I feel your pain (I sure miss my old garage), but don't let that hold you up. In a pinch there's always the kitchen! :)

Now of course I'm a single dad...so no missus to praddle on about the condition/purpose of the kitchen. Yes- do let us know what you learn...this is interesting.

well the bike is now booked in for next thursday, and i am taking the bike to them this friday as it is the only day i can get it there. I am also going to get them to fit me a higher rated spring as at 6' 8" and nearly 22 stone, i figure that might be some of my problem, lol.

i will let you know what they find when they have had a chance to check it out.

p.s. my wife has just mentioned that the bike might just get put in the skip if it comes in the kitchen and gets taken to bits.... lol.
