• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rear shock spring rate

I had my Gas Gas Ohlins shock and forks done by Les at LTR and the rear shock spring he used for my weight (205lbs) was a 5.6. The Ohlins and the Sachs use the same size spring so I assumed that I would need a 5.6 for the Sachs on the Husky. After putting a few rides on the Husky the 5.4 that came on it seems really close, maybe even a little firmer than the Gas Gas with the 5.6. Does the Husky use a lighter spring to achieve the same result due to a difference in the linkage or leverage disadvantage of the swingarm? I plan on having Les do the Husky once it is good and broke in but I'm not sure I need a spring at this point.

What year and model Husky do you have? '08 and up Huskies have a little different linkage ratio is what I am told and cause a little bit stiffer spring than before. '10 may be different as well but not sure on that. I ride a '10 TXC 250 and am around 200lbs without gear, I use a 5.6 on the rear instead of the 5.4 it had on it. I might have gotten away with a 5.4 but I think it works better with the 5.6. I can tell you it gives better traction especially on hills with the stiffer spring. It really depends on what you ride and how it feels to you though. I did not know the ohlins 888 shock used the Sachs Spring, good to know.

My Husky is a 2009 WR250. I bought a Sachs spring for my 2003 EC200 Gas Gas and it was the same as the Ohlins but I think different year Sachs shocks have different lengths so it's best to get a measurement before assuming. Also aftermarket springs can vary a little on the inside diameter especially on the 5.6 spring so putting an aftermarket spring on an Ohlins shock might require a spacer. I traded the old Ohlins 5.2 spring for a Sachs 5.6 and the Sachs spring was about 1/3" longer but I don't know what bike it came off of and it appeared to be an aftermarket spring.

Interesting. Thanks for reporting.

Not really pertinent to the conversation, but I'm using a spring from a Honda cr500 (5.7kg) on my 09' wr300 Sachs shock. Fit's perfect and I found it for cheap! Just an FYI....
