I was riding my Terra this afternoon and I let the clutch out and the chain and rear sprocket spun but the rear wheel and tire decided they didn't want to move... I can't get the bike home until tomorrow. Anyone ever seen this before?

    Wow, that's weird.

Did all the sprocket bolts shear off or fall out?

Check the cush rubbers. Think they are about $100 if thats the problem.

    Not too many choices...
    1) Either all 6 sprocket bolts sheared off and the sprocket is spinning free
    2) All 3 "wings" in the wheelhub have broken (the bracing that the cush-rubbers sit on)
    3) All 3 lugs in the sprocket carrier have cracked out of the cast
    4) The rear axle nut is either barely on the thread or has been lost, the chain has pulled the sprocket carrier askew and the carrier has
dislodged from its seat, disengaging drive and spreading the swingarm in the process.

All of the above come with a variety of noises and bangs that certainly should've been noticeable. (scratch head)

I vote the cush drive rubber blocks. Mine are worn after 25K and I have a new set waiting in the wings. Let us know what you find.

I've been guilty of fully dumping the clutch on this bike before but.... Waiting to see what went here, post pictures!

Hub-"wings" and the lugs of the carrier actually interlock via overlap, so it can't just be the cush drive rubbers.
OP specified that the chain and rear sprocket spun...so it can't be the countershaft sprocket.
Perhaps the bike jettisoned the rear wheel somewhere along the line? :p

If the sprocket bolts shear it's very likely the sprocket will fall off & jam between the hub & the swinging arm

Hmmmm, seems odd. With those considerations it seems more likely that the counter sprocket or sprocket are missing teeth.

If the rear sprocket spins like it states in the opening messageā€¦ that tells me that both sprockets still have teeth. Can't wait to find the answer to this puzzle.

I just can't imagine driving with the racket it must have been making.

When I changed my rear bearings, I was dumbfounded by the lousy design.

On most axle setups, the spacers ride on the inner race of the bearing. On our drive hub, it has some dufas overlapping spacer, and if you over tighten the rear axle, you will stress the bearings.

That is why I had to replace mine, over tightened rear axle.

So you want to make sure you use a torque wrench on the rear axle. I usually just synch 'em down.
