Pardon my ignorance, but what does 'anodized' actually mean ? I am in the market for a new chain and sprocket set and I'd like to order them from Motosportz but I'm not sure about the durability of the anodized rear sprocket. Is it a steel sprocket with a coating ? I don't need a lightweight sprocket (I don't race) but I do want durability.

    Thanks for you help.

Anodizing is a process that increases the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the metal. It increases corrosion and wear resistance.

Dyes can be used in the process to give the anodizing a color.

You won't find anodized steel as it isn't effective for steel.

Thank you Yossarian. I assume, therefore, that the sprockets will be some form of alloy as opposed to steel. I really don't need the weight-saving alloy gives me so I will go with steel.

    Thanks.

Motosportz guy here. Our sprockets are 7075 aluminum just like renthal and the rest. Very long lasting, I have almost 1600 miles on one on my TXC450. Holding up very well. Steal is cool but weighs 3x more and that's unsprung weight which affects suspension performance.

    Thanks for the reply.

That's interesting. My rear is actually in pretty good shape - it's the front that is totally TU.

    I will order today

    Motosportz,

Will the (yours) 50T rear interfer with the stock rear chain roller? My bike is near new so I don't need a whole new chain for the new 50t spocket. Do you sell one and two links for the stock chain? I'm sure others have the same need.

I had a 50T rear with the stock chain (I assume it was stock since I bought the bike lightly used) and it was fine.

It was. Just fitted them, and as the weather is cooperating here in New England, I'm ready to go this weekend :applause:
