I see these crazy prices on e-bay, any better source or place to look? Haven't been doing this long and just looking for a little advice on what this group thinks is reasonable for these?

If you happen to have one, I might be interested if my budget can afford it, just PM me.

My bikes an 82 XC, ideally would like that year/color, but would consider WR or XC from any of those years.

    Thanks,
    Adam

I looked for a 1980 tank for the better part of two years on e-bay ... finally found one in almost perfect ( almost dent free - has one small ding in it) condition (needed paint and restoration) paid $165.00and then had it restored the way I wanted it...

You also could buy a Clark Plastic tank for around $200-$250 brand new

Good tanks are hard to come by but I don't beleive in paying anyone an exorbitant amount of money for a tank...

I saw a NOS one on E-Bay awile ago, I think they wanted $600 on buy it now, might be wrong. Still cheaper than a Harley tank! Hard to find a good one like T said. I paid $250 for a very nice 81-83 tank and then spent another $100 in just materials to paint it myself. If I would have had it painted at a body shop? probably another $250. Like anything obsolete, not going to make any new ones again! I second the Clarke tank on a rider. I had a NOS 83-early 84 510 plastic tank for sale for awile, decided to keep it-looks good on my "tank shelf". Ive seen some on E-bay go for $150 lately. Couple of years ago they were really crazy. $14K autos, $25K 400 Cross's

Well first off the origional poster didn't state if they wanted the smaller cr kind or larger wr/xc kind. I have a smaller different shaped one on my 81 auto I assume is origional for those years. If you buy a bunch of parts bikes you end up with a bunch of dented tanks and a few without dents. As with all things folks want to pick through what you have and take the best one. I guess If you look it like $250 is the fair market price to get it restored and painted why should I deal one off for $75 or whatever you want to pay? How dented up is the one you have or is it worn through somewhere? It is a recreational activity that costs money, the money it costs when you crash and go to the hospital makes most of the rest kind of insignificant. They are liquidating unused wr 125 2009 to me at some price point that makes more sense.

Fran, never said I was trying to buy someone's best stuff for nickels. Was hoping to find a dent free 2.9 gallon aluminum tank from the 81-83 time frame, didn't really care about paint condition. Like most vintage folks here, we all have a rider tank, but would also like one that's a good candidate for restoration. My current tank is badly beat up and not suitable for resto and will thus remain my primary use tank.

Highdez, thanks for the offer but already have a plastic tank. Found what I was looking for, not a perfect tank, but I'm not building a show bike and it's a heck of a lot better than the bashed up aluminum tank I have now.
