Ok, so it appears that my front brakes were dragging to the point that the front wheel will not turn freely. After some troubleshooting, it seems that the caliper is not "floating" on the bracket like the calipers on our other dirt bikes. There is no play at all and it seems to be stuck in place. While I have fixed the problem by using a caliper from a KTM that I had leftover from a part out, I would still like to get this caliper back in working order in case it needs to be used again. What I am having trouble with is figuring out how to get the caliper off the bracket to clean it. It has two mounting points and one was easy to get to and there is a bolt that can be backed out. The other mount does not appear to have a nut that can be turned. I may be asking a stupid question here, but does anyone know how to remove the caliper from the bracket? Bike is a 2010 TXC 250 with a Brembo caliper. Thanks in advance.
I've had that same problem ... The caliper should just slide off the 2 pins and separate from the bracket ...And yes, one pin was removable I think and the second one was the problem getting free. I had to soak the 'stuck' pin area with ATF and kerosene over a period of a few days and then wedge a couple wrenches in between the capilar and the bracket to drive them apart ... A rubber hammer was what I was using also... Here is the thread ..not alot of help maybe other than the mixing solution for the penetrating oil stuff... http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/stuck-caliper-slider-pin-front-brake.37124/
Awesome! Thanks Ray Ray. I was wondering if that was the case but was a bit afraid to just start going at it.
Mine was a real pain getting it off ... I really soaked the parts for a week or two .... It was really funky how I used 2 opened wrenches to drive the parts apart ... Maybe your parts will be easier to separate ... The rubber pierces that seal the dirt out are standard sizes I think across many bikes ... I think I payed about $2 for a xrm honda part to go back on mine. Now, every time I do anything to my brake pads, I make sure they float as expected.
