I am looking for an equivalent replacement battery for my 2007 TE450. Is the Yuasa YTZ7S or equivalent replacement correct? Is there a better and or cheaper replacement than the Yuasa?

    Thanks,
    Blake

Yes it is.... I paid $44.95 for mine at Powerstride Battery in Corona.

I love it. Spins my motor over way quicker than the Yuasa....

    That is cool.

I'm sure there are some electronics in the battery to do the conversion from lead acid to Li-ion charging methods.

My buddy has the older version of this that you have to charge on his CRF250x. He loves it and says it lasts many rides before needing a charge. Much lighter than stock.

Starting this month they are shipping a version that can be installed in a bike, and charged by the bike - takes a 1 wire modification to do that though apparently, but no external charging needed.

I am concerned about running this type of battery since I have a Baja Designs 8in 55W Halogen and a trailtech SCMR16 HID light all running off my bike. I did have BD rewind my stator to give the max output. Does anyone think there would be issues with running an E-Batt?

If it was a trail ride with other riders & chase truck it should be fine - and of course I'd have the old battery in the chase truck just cause I'm real careful.

If it was a race I'd do a lot of testing but still don't see a problem.

I'm assuming the light would be off when the bike was off because you could cause some problems if that were not the case.

    I emailed Andre from eBatt:
    And he replied back:

It looks as though he is willing to work with me, but I feel because I need the juice, and I don't necessarily need to drop the weight (although every bit helps) I'm going to go with the Power Source stock replacement.

So Power Source is out of stock until the first week in February with the WPZ-7s battery. I have called all the place that I think stock them, and can't find one. Any ideas?

as far as OEM replacements go Yuasa is a top line battery, Testimony from a few of my motoshop owner crew all sell Yuasa exclusively. Plus mine have never failed in my last 3 Huskies after mucho abuse, each on the 04 and 06 lasted for 2 years each and were sold with the bikes, my 08 is still going strong (not quite a year of abuse).

The Powersource battery is better than the Yuasa in cold cranking amps 190 vs 130 . To bad they do not have it in stock . At $44 compared to the Yuasa at $114.00 + it is a steal..... So far mine is perfect......lets see if it last three years!

The Yuasa on my '05 TC 450 lasted for exactly three years.

His reply makes no sense to me. The stator will either be big enough to keep things going or it won't. Certainly the battery will drain super fast if the bike is not running... but I still don't see what it would not work. Maybe I'll call and get more info.

    Here's my interpretation:

Don't over look the small circuit that charges the Lith-ion battery. If the additional lights are connected directly to the battery, the current will come only from the battery, the stator cannot supplement as it's feeding the charging circuit, and the charger in turn is only feeding the battery the prescribed amount of current so as to not overcharge/explode the lith-ion battery. The charge rate for lithium-ion is 0.2 C to 0.7 C depending on manufacturer, meaning the charger circuit is only supplying 20%-70% of 2.3amp/hour.

If the lights are connected to the stator output only, including a ground that is not connected to the negative of the battery, then I agree there would be no problem. But anything drawing current from the battery directly would be limited to 2.3amp/hour + the charging current of 0.46 amp/hour to 1.6amp/hour. Not much total.

    Excellent explanation and I agree.

Since I'm not in the market for such a product I'll let someone else dig deeper and will assume lairpost educated guess is correct.
