What's the riding like in Fields, Oregon/Burns BLM area? Wives are interested in the unique natural area and a horse ranch/trainer nearby. Any dealer in closest larger town who rents bikes? Also thinking about putting our bikes, gear and camping gear in an ABF Freight container and shipping them out there. Any input appreciated.

That area is mostly barren waste land. Not sure there is much good riding in that area.

Bend has some good stuff but what time of the year are you looking at? Get you butt up to the NW corner and LOTS of riding and I'll be glad to meet you with a bike and show you around.

This is prime adventure bike area. Tons of 2 track out there for exploring. Woodschick has a couple long posts on riding along the OR NV border. There are no designated OHV areas out there, so local connections are pretty much required for pure dirt riding. Burns has an ATV dealer who might be willing and able to help.

    Wasteland it is not!!

Radar Hill OHV is near Burns....says it has 22 miles of trails.

Eastern Oregon Powersports is the local dealer.

Thanks! I looked it up and it's about 2 hours from our main location.

    Kelly,
I may take you up on the offer. Thanks! I'm not sure what time of year we would do the trip. I'm guessing late Summer.

The ABF Freight container is an excellent idea.
If you can arrange with someone where you would have them dropped, maybe give the container a little extra time to get there before you do, so you don't have to wait on it, all depending if they have be received by someone.

    Sent you a PM

Riding out of Fields and into Nevada (IMO) is a lot of fun The old roads can be challenging due to erosion from flash floods and snow melt, oh and the deep silt and sand is fun too.:) That part of OR NV has many mountain ridges.
I can send you some links to some great rides in the area. The Trans America Trail actually passes right through there.

There are many wild horses and burros (my favorite) running around and the hot springs are a real treat after a days ride.
    Check out Woodschick's RRs.

The northern NV section of the TAT (trans-america trail) is one of my favorite sections. There is nothing super tight, but it is gorgeously desolate and very scenic. It would make for a really good multi-day dual sport camping trip on a medium size 4-stroke.

You might be getting a little scope-creep but it's probably ok this time...

There's gotta be something here breathtaking ... The riding I used to do in GPNF in WA, was not too far north of Mt St Helens ... All that higher elevation is not available due to snow till ~Aug most yrs I think..

Not sure who is building the websites for the state parks but every-time I go to or stumble into one of them, its set up very well with easy access to alots of information. We rode the trails up there for yrs and the info about each trail was pretty accurate also.

Not really SE Oregon, but I done a bunch of riding at a place in Idaho called Rabbit Creek. Many of our loops go over the border into Oregon...

I've been wanting to do that portion of the TAT for a long time now. In your opinion, what's the best time of the year to go?

I've done it twice, both times in September/October. That is definitely a good time of year. Cool but not cold; it does definitely get cold at night up there if you're camping, be prepared.

The entire western section of the TAT (Colorado to Oregon) is a great ride. I love the Nevada section, but the other parts are cool too.

People keep asking me to ride Baja but with so much semi local stuff to discover I'm in no hurry.

Oh, dude, you need to ride Baja. For sure. Go around the time of the race for the full experience.

I've ridden a lot of places; the entire TAT, lots of CO riding, Moab, Oregon, and east coast. They are all great in their own right, but Baja is an experience not to be missed. It might just be because of the race, but the place is magical. I've only been there once, but I will be back (and hopefully at some point have a number on my bike).

    Sorry for the off topic!

I know there is a place in the range of 2~3 hours from Fields called Crane Mountain. I rode there once in the early 90's. I don't really remember much about the place due to the fact I left that place in a heli... :(
