I hit something at speed the other day when cruising down a dirt access road (kicked the rear end out pretty good), and about 5 minutes later had a flat. when changing the tire, i notice a decent dent in the rim now. when remounting the tire, i now have an uneven bead, so i am assume i need a new rim. The rims on the bike are pretty beat up from the previous owner anyway. any recommendations as to where to buy a new one. Also, i have never tried this, but can i just get the rim, and "respoke it" myself? I am fairly mechanical, and don't usually feel daunted by any task. thanks
I've never bent the stock Excel rims in ~8 yrs of riding my Huskies... I've only had to tighten the spokes on my stock rims maybe 3-4 times also during this time... So I'm sure the Excels' would be my choice again.... You can probably re-lace a rim ... There should a process outlined on the web for doing this work ....
We (Motorsportz) have a pile of Excel rims here. You can lace them yourself, not real hard and tutorials on line as to the right method.
