I was riding on Wednesday and luckily I noticed the creeping idle. Pulled in the clutch and it started to rev quite a bit. I shut her down and preserved the engine: yay! I pulled off the clamp and wrapped the boot with electrical tape and made it home.

Anyways, the boot between the carb and the reed block is ripped and sourcing a stock one may be an issue. Is there a crossover? I know the Honda CR250 reed block is the same, could I be lucky enough that the boot is the same too?

I had to replace the one on my 2011, and it wasn't all that expensive. Before I installed the new one, I coated the outside of it with some spray stuff that would inhibit the weathering an oxidizing of the material. http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

Carry some amalgamating tape for repairs such as that.

I got one recently from Bill's, in stock and less than $30. Seems like much better quality than the original POS too.

They like to fall apart! This one is only a couple weeks old

Unlike the original this one stuck to the paper gasket, then I tore the gasket checking it out. I should have just added a new gasket and kept going :banghead: but I had to clean it up. Some of the thin rubber came off the mount with the gasket and allowed the boot to separate. I had a quick ride and this doesn't cause an air leak...yet.
My plan is to get another one and cement a gasket to it.

Ordered a new boot from Bills today. Good thing I'm off to the lake so I won't have to deny myself riding while I wait.

This thread saved me a bunch of money. Mine started cracking near the carb & I sealed it up with RVT until I could find a replacement. A couple places wanted over $100. I just ordered from Bills. Gonna throw some tape in my tool bag in the mean time. I also ordered the gaskets.

I got 1 more ride then the bike started running lean again. I couldn't find the leak and was starting to wonder what else could be wrong. The rubber boot was separated from the metal base just under the top, center screw, very difficult to see. That's about 3 weeks out of a new part! Not Bill's fault, but I'm going to let them know when I order another.
Not sure yet what to do with the new one to avoid this hassle.

Maybe get a older used one of eBay. My 2002 CR250 has the stock one and looks like new. Maybe they were just built way better back then.

The 02 cr 250 I just purchase in parts has a small crack in the boot but it was on the back side where you could'nt see from the out side. So you may have to remove to inspect every once an while. It is right on the seam on the inside. cr airboot.JPG
