I just did round 5 of the AMA National Hare & Hound in Johnson Valley Southern Calif.
3 Loops each one getting harder, for a total of 100 miles. Loop 1 and 2 were all rocks with loop 3 having lots of rocks along with a few big sand dunes climbs with rocks at the top. loop 3 had a few sections that we have used in King of the moto.
This was my first real race test for the Golden Tyre Rocky 523 It worked great with super grip on the rocky hills. I was also amazed at how well it worked on the sand dune climbs. After the race the tire looked in good shape and could easily be used for another 100 mile National
Unless you have rode or raced in this area you really will have a hard timer understanding just how ruff these rocks are. I am very pleased with the performance of this Golden Tyre that I purchased at Zip Ty Racing
As for my race finished 4th in over 50 Expert and out of about 260 riders finished 56 over all
Took it easy the first 2 loops and on loop 3 passed 11 riders 2 who were in my class to finish 4th I am happy with my performance now on the Utha and Rd 6. Still 3rd in the overall points
    for 50 Expert

It did look good for after that terrain. I think it's the prefect tire for your bike. Was great to see you at the finish Feelin Froggy. I ended up with a pinch flat after bombing through the sharp rocks out there. I smell a mousse in my future...

I raced the Utha national 6 days later on the same wheel and tire and after another 100 miles of National course that tire has enough to do another one for sure. It really is turning out to be a great tire choice to go along with the 216aa
One other note both of the last 2 races did have some sand dunes sections where you would think the 523 rocky would not perform in a area that it was not designed for. Well it worked in the sand to. Hope Zip Ty gets another shipment soon.

Sounds good there AJ ... Did you change your physical fitness training as per another thread we had out here?

Yes I am now using some Health products from Zip Ty Racing. Which they sell from a company called Raw The company sells many Health foods all 100 present organic. Check out the Raw web sight then call Zip Ty if you see something you like. I am also using some stuff from Hammer products both per race engery bars and there Heed power drink in my camel back. Like I posted before I never go to the gym and other then working all day and riding on the weekend that is it. This year started off bad with a 8th place at the first National and a hour out at King of the Moto. So after those 2 events I call a few top riders from around the world and asked them what can this almost 59 year old guy do to feel better during the race. I learned a lot in those calls took what they told me along with information that Ty at Zip told me and put together a change that with the limited time I have with work to try somethings.
So I now feel 100 present better during the race. My current race results do not reflect that since I keep getting 4th at all the Nationals, but I can tell you I feel so much better and my energy level is way high. I just do not want to really go any faster. I hate going fast and the tuffer the race the better I do. At the last 2 Nationals according to moto-tally I passed 11 guys in the last loop at Rd 4 and at Rd 5 in the last 50 miles I passed 16 guys. So my energy level is there just not the speed in the beginning. If 4th in the expert class is where I finish against a few younger guys then I am happy with that.
So here is a quick run down of what I have been doing
Every morning from 6am to around 7am I go for a walk run with the wife and dog in the mountains behind my house then off to work
Every morning I take a heart mussel pill and a multi vitamin pill along with a shake with protein and powder greens all 100persent organic from Raw Energy Health foods
Pre race morning I eat a Hammer bar before the race and just before the start take a Hammer gel
In my camel back I run a Hammer sport drink called Heed
During the race when I pit I have a Hammer gel pack ducked taped to my quick fill as my pit crew dumps the gas I grab my gel pack and down it. It feels like legal drugs, it works that well.
That is about it, still do not work out or go to the gym. After 10 hours at a wrecking yard no need to lift any more.
I am really happy with my results and will keep knocking at the back door of 3rd and better hopefully I will get a better finish.
Round 6 is in northern Utha on June 6th we get to do 100 miles with loop 3 billed as really extream so maybe I will have that extra energy on loop 3 to move up
So that is what I have done to change All the products I have been using I purchase thru Zip Ty Racing and am really happy I talked to and listen .

I gotta try changing some stuff. I don't think the old H2O is gonna cut it anymore. You went from hang dog sicky to pre-race pumped AFTER 100 miles. I simply couldn't believe I was talking to the same guy from the morning when you came into the finish.

I was sick before that race but at the end of loop 1 had a gel that after 2 I had 2 gels and changed to another camel back which had the Hammer Heed and some Hammer protien with it. I felt like new on loop 3, I passed 11 guys and felt like I could ride more at the finish Sure was a change from the morning
Jeramie you really need to try some of the Hammer stuff Check out there web sight and read about it Then either order direct or from Ty

Hammer Sustained Energy is good for the longer races and can mix w/gels. Heed good too. I pack both for mtb riding and racing.

Looked it up, seems like it's worth a shot. I don't think they'll let me sand bag much longer so I need to get my body dialed for more consistent energy and hydration for the rest of this season and prepare for being a 2 looper next year.

The Sustained Energy is good as it has some protein but neutral flavor. Just test what viscosity mixes best for the camelback. You may agitate it enough riding to not have any settling issues/clogging. Heed for under 1.5 hrs and Sustained energy for longer. I find better to get nutruition drinking it than fumbling with gels and bars.
