How many of y'all have strapped on a paddle and hit the sand? What did you think?

I once had a CR500 with a paddle tire and rode at the Glamis sand dunes. I find it hard to believe there would be anything better.

I typically take 1-2 trips per year to different sand dunes. Never have put a paddle tire on - I just let most air out of what ever knobby and ride.

Last summer I was able to climb Choke Cherry Hill at the St Anthony Dunes (Idaho) with my wr450f using a knobby. Barely...

I too have had a cr500. (Complete Beast) A 450 is the ticket with a paddle. But since I can't afford the FC450 and TC250 I'll just take my 250 2t and have a good ol' time.

I'd confirm what Hal_396 indicates. I've spent numerous weekends at Glamis and the CR500AF or KX500AF is king.

The big bikes are awesome, but not required. I've had a lot of fun riding dunes on a 1996 CR125 too...

It may depend on which dunes you are riding at as to whether a certain displacement is necessary. The big bowls of glmais would be difficult on
a 125 unless you were only a feathery 120 lbs.

    Very true.

The OP rides a nice 250 2 stroke, which will be just fine at any dunes in the USA.

+1, Glamis and Dumont have some sizeable dunes and bowls, 250 2 strokes and 450 4 strokes w/paddles are minimum unless you're super light. I'm not, so the 610 was great back when I rode the dunes.

Have you guys ever been to St Anthony Idaho? The dunes there make Dumont look like a gravel pit...

I've only been to the Oregon dunes but I have plans to go to St. A and Glamis. Once I build up enough vacation pay.

Plan to ride there some day, they tell me the area isn't quite as big as Glamis but the dunes and bowels are bigger and not near as many idiots and Law to control them. Sounds great.

Sadly I don't dune ride any more as half my buddies quit going and the other half now are into high dollar sand cars. I have an unused skat trak paddle I keep just in case I get the opportunity to take the 300 to the sand. Some day.

What you've been told is spot on. I go every September with my wife. We camp for a few days and meet friends there. The toys we ride with range from A class MX dirt bike racers to 60+ year olds in UTV's. You could always join us if you'd like.

I ride the sand dunes alot. Remember on a 2 stroke to richen the jetting... sand takes alot more fuel. St anthony is fun. My wr300 couldnt make choke cherry tho:(

Thanks, my girlfriend bought a nice class c rv last year. I'm wanting to take a few weeks off with her and ride a bunch of spots on my bucket list, St. Anthony's and the Oregon coast being two of them.

I rode Glamis quite a bit last decade, and off weekends and mid week are really nice. Dumont is okay, but gets old real quick.
