Blimey, got my bill through for the first service, £207, :( Had an expansion bottle leak and they told me they have repaired it as there would have been a 3 week wait for spare parts from Italy due to holidays etc. I have asked them to get a new bottle and they said they would order one and send it for me to fit lol.
Kind of takes the edge of the dealers trust a bit.

It seems like the dealer can easily add a few extra charges if they wish. What exactly happens during the first 1000km service. Oil change, oil filter change and inspection of the bike in general? If I were to perform the oil and filter change myself and bypass the service done by the dealer, will my warranty go void?

yeh your right about that, in the UK there is a warranty law that you can get a garage who is VAT registered to do any servicing using only genuine parts and you are covered. My stealer couldn't tell me how much a major service would be, only saying that it depends how many miles you do!
Crikey, i bet that if you do 10,000 miles you would pay as much as another machine.

I paid $190 Canadian, which is on par with the American $ for my first 1000km service.

I nearly shit my drawers. 1 filter and 2 and a bit quarts of oil and about 45min to do a general check over of the bike. I even asked the dealer if he mixed up the invoices by mistake. I then immediately asked how much he expected the 5000km service to cost because of the valve check. He had no idea because id probably be the ginny pig.

Prices like that is when I miss my DR650. Piss in the oil reservoir to fill her up and push the starter. The DR was good for another few 1000kms.

I think this bike has a major flaw and many will sell as soon as they descover this problem of high service costs.
Trick is to sell before this gets to be common knowledge and get a good trade in value.
I own a Harley Road King, a Moto Guzzi sport, and a BMW GS 1100 and the service cost to me is no where near the cost of this bike! Shame as I have just ordered a new seat :(

I just changed the oil/filter on my Terra, with just shy of 5000km on the clock. (I plan to do my own intermediate service every 5000km and let the dealer handle the major service every 10K. Cost here in Australia was (for consumables) was
    $AU90 for a 4 litre Motul 7100 Full synt - 2 litres required for oil fill = $45
Geniune Oil filter new copper crush washers for drain plug and oil tank screw = $45
    Geniune air filter = $45

I can find my 1000km service cost on my credit card statement, but i can't find the actual invoice, so I won't share that cost because I can't remember if it was entirely for the service or whether I bought some other stuff in the shop at the same time.

My dealer told me they do the 1st service for $95 + parts.

    I did it myself.

Mine cost400 f&@king dollars Aus! They told me it was because they had a lot of trouble getting the oil level right. WTF? So as soon as I got home I checked the oil level and sure enough, way too much in there. So back to the dealer to siphon some out. Told them about the burping problem, they had no idea. Told them about the Wuka King, no idea. Hopefully when the next person has the overheating problem they will be able to sort it out.

They also said Husky allows 4hours to do the valve check, but most likely it will take longer.

This is all getting silly, I bought a K&N oil filter for $10, most jap air filters are less by a lot, these Importers are just bending us over in Oz, together with all the other issues, another project is on the cards, pitty.

Whats with these Australian mechanics that cant get the oil level right.....Mine $280 ($40 filter, $60 oil and the rest labour). I had to take mine in twice to get some taken out. The second time I had to show them how to do it correctly (i.e they were doing it on the sidestand). They gave me $10 for the extra oil that they used, even though I used $8 in fuel for 2 round trips. Not looking foward to the 10k service price.

I think that Husqvarna should take some action as they seem to just sit on the fence, beats me how your letting with idiots loose with your pride and joy. If the tables were turned around, bet the mechanics wouldn't like it done their machines?

Yeah, I talked to them and they knew about the letting it run 3 minutes after the fans kicked in, but still it was up to the top of the dipstick. Charged me for 2.1 lts, so I told them just put in 2 as stated in the manual. Just trying to look out for the next guy who gets a service, although I don't think they would have sold too many up here. Doesn't make me real confident on what they did with the moss.

I don't think the MOSS will let them do anything stupid. From what I saw of it in use, it's a typical step by step diagnosis tool. It tells them what to do step by step to troubleshoot problems. once it identifies the Terra, it won't let them install an efi map for a different model for instance.

When I rang them to book the service I asked if they had the moss tool, and his reply was along the lines of 'that f$&king pain in the arse, yes we've got it' which didn't leave me with a great deal of confidence! When I dropped the bike off I asked them if they were going to plug it into the moss and he said yes that's part of the service.

Having seen someone use a MOSS in person, that statement would actually instill confidence that dealer was using it correctly. The MOSS looks like a pain in the rump.

Well picked up the bike up this evening, and met for the first time the Mechanic! He was of a vintage age like myself lol and got talking about the Husky, seems like if I want to get them to do the major service better get a loan as they will have to drop the engine to do the valves:eek:
Now I am all for progress and with the help of design computers making a vehicle to a cost effective method, goes to pot as soon its in the hands of the new owners.
Don't designers consult any mechanics if the bike can be serviced, repaired easily? No they don't obviously, it seems that the poor (well will be after the service) owner cops the bill for their stupid designs and that must put the future of manufacturers in trouble. No wonder BMW sold out to KTM and they may no longer make the Terra/Strada well not if they want to keep customers buying their bikes!
When looking for a decent 650 bike, I tested some and new what I wanted and the Strada ticked all the boxes, not even the GS came close to cost, power etc but I would sure like to break this bike later on and stick the engine into a more suitable easy to work on frame or even make my own if like the CCM.
Gone the days of the working mans machine and up comes the new leisure machine in its place. Recently heard that a certain Aprilia requires 15 hours to be serviced, well thats even more than the Husky, or nearly! Writer now gets off his soap box and has a Vodka!

Haha too true. The biggest issue my dealer was having with his was that he wasn't turning it on and hooking up bikes very often, particularly in the first couple of months I had mine, and they were constantly sending updates to the MOSS and each time he powered it up and connected to head office it would spend half an hour downloading more updates. Apparently when they were first distributed there were very few functions available for use by the dealerships but they were adding new functionality often, different modules etc. I imagine in the same way that the service manual for the bike has many missing sections.

I find it's best to check the oil after a ride to ensure the oil is at operating temp as oil expands quite a lot. From a cold start, if you check using the prescribed method, stick your finger in the tank to check the oil temp - it's relatively cool.

Another reason for the $400 service; to allow the dealer to recoup their investment on having to buy the MOSS tool for a small population of bikes in your area. That's life.

Got the chance to put on the Ricochet sump plate today, lucky they didn't check the bolt tightness in the service (£200) as it was easy to get the lower bolt out:D
