Shinko 216MX.....unabashed GT216AA clone.

Well Shinko is on the Fatty bandwagon and as it is and can be with sourcing from China not even hiding the cloning process on their 90/100-21 216MX Fatty...even the model being called 216...it is probably molded in the same "commie" tire factory!! Tread pattern is the same FIM style it just looks like they added Shinko logos into the mold.
Oh and its quite a bit less expensive, you could even say substantially less.
I assume its a 2 ply standard not the a 4ply desert special. Truth is I ordered one already...
I will try it and continue to refer to it as Shiteco.....minus the e

Anyway I did order one on the cheapy. GT are far east manufactured as well. They were Italian owned by the Tuscano, M Cavallini but Im not sure he's still in.

Probably made in East Asia for the Americas and Oz, etc. The ITA made stuff is probably sold only in the EU at a premium price. When I got my AGV helmet and saw Made in China I complained and that's what they said was going on.

Believe it or not Shinko makes the Continental TKC80 50/50 tyre on behalf of Continental. They also make their own rip off version that is purportedly an excellent dual purpose tyre. I may be wrong but isn't Shinko South Korean?

Update. Shinko are Japanese owned and designed and manufactured in South Korea

I'v been running the Shinko 505 cheater on the back and the 546 fatty on the front, both great tyres.
So good I got a Shinko Trials for my gasgas and it works almost as good as a double the price michelin.
Prefer the 505- 546 to the GT fatty and 333 combo I had before. Never liked the 216 fatty as it seems to wander in turns.
On the Chinese tyre bashers, I want you to have a look at the GT side wall....made in PRC it says.... What country would that be???
At least the Shinko's price reflects it's made in Korea, the GT are bloody expensive for a made in China tyre.
Shinko has their own rubber farms in Asia and the quality is really good.

I didn't know the GTs were made in China until this thread. I haven't tried a Fatty because to me it's overpriced in general and def overpriced for chiny made. That said, I bought a few Sedona rear tires to try with Tubliss and like them for the price, but won't be buying more unless I have to.
Very happy with the Shinko 520 and Tubliss on the 300 and interested in some of their other tires too. If I can afford it I'll just but Metz or Pirelli though which are made in Brazil so far.
Being weight conscious I've noticed all the Sedona and Shinko tires I've tried are quite a bit heavier than Metz and Maxxis. IRC VE33 is excellent with or without Tubliss, lightest 4 ply yet and made in Thailand.
If Shinko can get the weight and price down on GT copies I'm interested, but again would rather support something made in the Americas if I can.

Is GT going down the tubes? Seems like they've been the shitz for enduro/extreme riders lately with a lot of big names onboard. Must be a serious blow to lose the patent on the Fatty
