08 cr 125 Couple of things .... I have an 06 gasser with 45mm shivers .42 springs came with it and .44 springs are in it. The cr has .46, which I think is more than I need. Wanted to put the .42 springs from my gasser in the cr. Called Les at LT and he said they should drop right in. looking at the part fiche the springs on the cr look very short. On the fiche for the wr the springs look more like what I've got on the shelf. Wondering if maybe les though I was talking about a wr?? Anyone know if there is a difference in the fork spring length between the 08 cr and wr forks. part 2 Spring change out on my gasser forks is very easy. Pop the caps lift the front wheel and your good to go. A rider who was very knowledgable about suspension said that the cr forks have a kind of twin chamber design and won't be so easy to change out. Anyone know what is involved in doing just a spring change. Is it really a pain in the butt??
I don't know what kind of cartridges are in your forks, but I do know that the lighter springs are usually longer and there is a spacer that you remove that was in the fork with the shorter spring. That's the way it was on my TE.
Springs out on TC forks Typically you need to remove the lower cartridge nut before you can remove the cartridge and spring. While not quite as quick and dirty as you might like, this is the proper way to do the job. With the forks still on the bike loosen the lower cartridge nut by the axle clamp, and loosen the upper cartridge (make sure the upper triple clamp bolts are loose). Then with the axle clamp clamped in a vice, remove the lower cartridge nut. The lower (male) leg will typically be free to slide into the upper (female) leg at this point. Spin the cartridge out of the upper leg and you should be able to remove the entire cartridge unit and spring. Going back together the oil level is measured by volume and not height on TC forks.
Pretty sure the '08 CR came with the "open chamber" forks you describe on your gasser. Check the fork caps on your CR, if they are silver and pretty plain with a hex head protruding from the top, I think they are the open chamber forks. If they have a gold anodized top with some funky machining and a couple of small flat head screw adjusters, they are the sealed cartridge units that most likely take a different spring.
They are silver and pretty plain and look just like the fork caps on my gasser. guess I'll open them up an see....
the 08 cr is not the same open chamber as your gasser, be careful or you will twist something off that you shouldn't.
