With Husky future up in the air there are some great deals on product. I have an opportunity to purchase a new Terra for $5500 Cdn. I have not driven one yet. Local dealer has sold 2 and no Strada's. My original thought was to pick up a bike for short trips but was also capable of adventure riding. The Husky Terra seemed to be another choice along with a KLR 650. I'll put it out there.....Should I purchase the Husky or a KLR.

Yep, it's a steal; do it. You don't have to limit the Terra to short trips either, as long as you don't need a fairing. The KLR has more wind protection, but otherwise, it is no contest.

I find the Terra a bit more comfortable to do distance than my KLR. The wind protection on the KLR also creates a lot of turbulence. Clean air on the Terra.
Power wise it's a no contest. $5500 CDN is a steal, get it while you can!

+1 I hated my KLR. 50 miles on the freeway was all I could do, and then I need to take a couple of aspirin for the headache. Terra -> All day long, nice clean air. I think a lot of it has to do with height. Some folks love the KLR for it's 'protection.' I hate it for it's turbulence.

I love my strada and think everyone should get a terra or strada ;)

That being said, just understand that from what I have read, in Canada there will be little to no dealer support once you buy it. Maybe one of those on this board in Canada can correct me if I'm wrong. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy one. Just be prepared to do your own servicing.

Just picked mine up last week...these bikes are like bottled fun...might have exceeded the break in RPM a time or two...doubt I will be regretting this purchase any time soon.

I've had 3 KLRs ..the new one has better protection from wind rain and stuff...and the rear rack would haul a piano if needed. That's it! TR wins every subjective test IMHO. Probably double the power. .? Feels it any way...also the TR feels smaller in a good way than the porky KLR.

    Thanks Guys,
Looks like the Terra will be worth the risk even with limited support. Banged up the old knee today so might hold off for a week or so....

the most fun I've had in years (big grin) did 120 miles of Maine logging roads and asphalt this Sunday, got lost but found my way out, 85 mph on the asphalt 40mph in the dirt, get it and get on it and ride, you won't regret it, a fun machine with gobs of power

Reading some of the threads on CafeHusky gives me the heebiegeebies. Most of them are about problems. Personally, I've had only a few minor glitches. Bottom line: I love it. It's such a blast to ride. I put 200 miles on it on mountain roads in an afternoon. So much fun!! $5,500 Canadian is truly a steal. What other new bike could you buy for that price? Nothing would be close to the fun of a TR650. My 2 cents says go for it. The grin factor is huge.

Yeah it's easy to get a skewed perspective, because people only tend to discuss the problems, and there is limited need for threads discussing things that don't go wrong with the bike!. Although there are a number of flaws with the bike which have been identified, dissected and worked around in these forums, the same can be expected for any new model vehicle of any kind, and I think 99% of the TR650 buyers around the globe have taken the plunge knowing the risk.

So balance the number of threads about issues with the bike, against the number of threads where the TR650 owners say stuff like...

and I think you'll find there is a bike giving many many big grins to it's owners with only a small number of real issues. :)

KLR650 is living in the past, as XR650L. TERRA 650 is conmmute bike for next decade. do everything well, perfect all rounder bike.
I match you guys, everyday a smile in face.
    Proud to purchase..
