Just bought an 09 610. Still breaking it in, but love the motor! Can't say the same for the sidestand-first time getting off the bike resulted in near face plant.

    Any suggestions or aftermarket options?

There are some rumors of a ProMoto Billet stand being developed for the TE610, and Nachoman had one fabricated from 4130 (http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3239&highlight=kickstand).

Motosportz has developed an aftermarket side stand that I think can be mounted to the TE610 if you're willing to cut the factory mounting tab off the frame, but you'd want to check with Kelly to be sure (http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=773&highlight=stand).

However, you can make the stock kickstand more serviceable if you disable the auto retraction by cutting off the tab that realigns the spring. I cut mine with a hacksaw and filed it smooth. Stand is better that way, but not ideal.

Thanks for the quick response. Will check out Motosportz and look at your mod as well. Any other must-do mods for the 610 you would recommend? I have the Leo Vince exhaust, Cycra handguards and a skid plate already.

Sounds like you're well on the way. Since you put the LV exhaust on already you may want to consider having the FI remapped there are few more ponies and better ride ability hiding in there yet.

Good suggestion. Thinking I will break it in and then look at that. Definitely a tractor; which is what attracted me to the bike. Considered the KTM 690 too as I have some orange in me!

Do yourself a favor and don't cut anything off the frame! The stock stand is easily modified(unfortunately they need to be)but it's not hard to do.A stock SM 610 needs a TE stand and then they stand up perfect,a TE 610 needs an 1 1/2 added to make them right which is what I did. Then cut the head of the bolt off and your good to go.

    Husky666,
Like what you did with the stand. Can you give me some additional specifics on what kind of stock and sizes I need. Looks like your solution nails it.

It is easy to do if you have access to a machine shop and a tig welder,I made the spacer and welded it in myself.I will double check the dimensions tonight and PM them to you.Do you have a te or sm?

Or a friend with a shop and a tig. I have to keep bugging him- got permission from the boss to lean my bike against the building til I get my stand back. Feels like a dirt bike. ;)

Could you guys show me which "tab" to whack off in order to disable the auto-retract? bike is '06 SMR 510 new to me today.
Also once I disable the auto-retract it will still stay up like a normal kickstand right? It wont get all flacid on me :)

Cut the head of the bolt off so the cam action of the spring doesn't push on it when the stand is down. You can buy a replacement bolt that does not have that too.

See the clip that the bottom of the spring attaches to? Slowly put your kick stand down and you will see where the pivot bolt for the kick stand stick out and hits that clip. Cut the pivot bolt off that contacts the clip and grind it smooth.

    That’s interesting
My SM have no problems keeping upright, it’s just the lean is somewhat annoying and definitely not too graceful :excuseme:
Anybody know how much do the TE stand cost?

probally alot more than having yours lengthened by a local welder. Had mine lengthened and fixed for 10-20$ by a local after mine snapped at the top weld.

$85 is what the dealer told me when mine broke. Definitely not worth the price.
