In the past when March is coming to an end that's when I would shop winter gear for the following season. I've bought a $200 Agile ski coat for $60 and ski pants for $25 with zipper vents, extra pockets and just about every gizmo a coat could have. I figured I would have a cheap coat to wear while cutting firewood and work in the grime crawling around machinery.

This year my plan is to scan the same shopping malls but buy one a size bigger so that it will fit over protective gear.

Has anyone else used this strategy?

I used to play paintball. The Jerseys and pants are literally the same stuff as offroad gear. I think the paintball jerseys are slightly even nicer than the nicest Klim stuff actually. I buy the 1 or 2 yr old close out stuff. So a $90 jersey I just picked up for $10. I just picked up pants for $40. They where $149 new. Also another good place to look for knee pads, gloves etc are the close out bicycle stores. Killer deals to be had and essentially same gear.

I usually use my ski jacket and gloves for cold weather riding. They work fine for me but I don't really ride much in the winter.
