A quick question out there for those who know something about a Slipper Clutch--i have one on my 634 SMR Eddy Seel replica--is it normal when you gear down into a gear that you have this feeling through the clutch cable as it seems to click into position --? I have never had a slipper clutch before -or even ridden a bike with one --- works fine and all that -- just the click feeling on the cable --thank's ---
There is obviously something wrong with that bike. You should send it to me. Then you'll not have anything to worry about.
Then that is normal. The whole point of a slipper clutch is to reduce/eliminate engine braking. The clutch has rollers and ramps that disengage the clutch when reverse torque is applied (when you let off the throttle). If you've already disengaged the clutch using the lever when this happens, then the mechanism has less resistance and will basically "pop" instead of thrust the clutch plates apart against clutch spring load. Try downshifting without the clutch a few times at lower RPM's and you'll see what the slipper is really for. (I've rebuilt and installed a couple slippers in our FSAE cars that run Honda F4I motors, and they make a significant difference in driveability, wheel hop under braking and lap times)
Thank's ever so much -- I also found out that i could not push start it as well -- Just shows --one is never to old to learn --Definately going to try downshifting next time i take her out ---
Yup the click is normal. Now you need to practice backing it in! Oh and it is possible to push start a bike with a slipper, but you'll need some help pushing you. Seems like 2 guy pushing the bike really hard for a ways and a third riding is the way to go
