I have not had much to discuss here for a while. This is due to mainly due to being without my bike and partly due to me not wanting to say something that I later regret. I now need to vent. last summer while checking valve clearances I noticed this. http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/cracked-head.26354/#post-249345 On July the 19th it went to the dealer. ( it ran but I was worried about the cracked head) After more than 5 months spent waiting for parts and fault finding, the dealer could not get the bike to run. Well I had become a little pissed off by now and after the many phone calls and emails with Husky UK I persuaded them to let me take it to another dealer. Well I Dropped it off at the second dealer first week of January and I was told it would be a week. IT IS STILL THERE! They now think it might be the Fuel pump. It takes 2 months to diagnose a faulty fuel pump, order a replacement and fit it? What is going on here? Are other bike companies so inept at looking after customers or is it just Husky that treats their customers like this? I think I have been extremely patient. Buying 6 months road tax to put on your bike and not even getting the chance to stick it to your bike before it has expired really is depressing. I love(d) my husky but would I recommend one to a friend?.........
I wouldn't be happy either.... but it sounds more like an inept dealer than anything else. Maybe you should light a fire under their arse and get them moving. Lots of "happy" customers out there, even with issues. Just an opinion, good luck.
Thanks Demi, I defiantly think that there are problems with the Dealers. Being asked questions like "what condition are you expecting the bike back in?" does not inspire confidence. However this is now the second Husky dealership that the bike is at and I can't help but blame husky themselves.
That does sound terrible. I doubt very much it's a manufacturers issue, rather it seems more like inept mechanics. Your dealer should be doing more than just sitting your bike in a corner and hoping it fixes itself. It could be the restructuring (from BMW to KTM) has left warranty $$ for troubleshooting and parts scarce. Don't go so far as to condemn the brand. Things are a bit uncertain right now, but it should improve once KTM decides how Husky will be marketed. Maybe there is a suggestion from our UK members as to where you could send the bike.
Troup, do you have a copy of the workshop manual for your 630? If you do, and you look through it you will see your head looks the same as the motor pics in the manual. Nothing to worry about then is my opinion. A void in the cast for oil passage I imagine. Did the bike sit for 5 months before the dealer tried to start it? Bad gas, low battery? 5 months (or less) can turn gas in to crap is my experience. Do they/you hear your fuel pump prime? Is there enough juice in the battery to turn the motor over? My buddy bought a TE 450 new about 2 years after its mfg. date. We went on a few rides and his bike ran great, no problems. Then one ride he didn't listen to me when I told him to stand the bike up straight and fill the tank to the top while at the pump. We had a long loop and he ran out of gas. Then on later rides his fuel pump started taking a crap on him. I had to tow his new 450 and was NOT happy. He was still under warranty and his bike was home with a new fuel pump in about a week. It could have been a gummed up fuel pump sitting for 2 years. He could have cooked the pump priming it over and over when it was ran dry. Anyway...The dealer here in California got a warranty replacement fuel pump installed in his bike in about a week. I don't see why your Husky shop couldn't do the same? Don't give up on that 630. They are really well built yet easy to maintain/repair yourself. Don't (edit) let the shop drag their feet and give you the run around either.
Thanks , Thanks, I do love that bike and it was perfect before it went to get the head looked at. Sound like you get much better service over there. I do have the service manual and look after it myself but when I saw what looked to be a piece of metal missing I wanted to get it checked out by a dealer. Being that it was under Warranty it seemed like the logical thing to do. Big mistake. I only got the bike in January last year, 7 months of riding and over 7 months of waiting for parts / head scratching is not what I was expecting from husky ownership. Really hope that they get this sorted this week, if not I don't think I have any option but to pick it up in pieces and put it back together myself (with a little help from Cafe Husky)
Heya Troup Could you speak to Husky Sport down on the south coast ? They always have parts in stock and the guys are very good to deal with. I know you're up in Scotland so maybe they could get it shipped down as a good will gesture to get the bike running again. The casting flaw doesn't look good and you were right to query it. So the replacement they got in was identical ?
Thanks Gav, yes I will see what happens this week. If still no progress I will pick it up and try to get it running myself. Good to know Husky sport have parts in stock. The replacement head took 8 weeks to get from Italy to Scotland and yes when it arrived it was identical to the original.
That's very unfortunate! Sorry to hear you have had such a rough time with the bike. Definitely give Husky Sport a call for any parts you need. I ordered some bits yesterday after lunch and they have turned up this morning. Couldn't ask for better service!
Well it turns out that the replacement fuel pump for the faulty replacement fuel pump that was ordered to replace the original faulty fuel pump is faulty. It is now going to take another two weeks to get another fuel pump to Scotland. Is it just me who thinks that it might not be the fuel pump at fault?
Will this work I think some one on this board has had good luck with this unit for the price.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271122387845?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Well I have been holding off giving updates on this as I really wanted Husqvarna UK to redeem themselves. Shortly after my last update the Dealer that had my bike ceased being a dealer and Husqvarna uk's management left. "Fortunately" I was assured that my bike would be picked up and taken down to another dealer in England to be put back together. Allowing for delivery time I was told I would have the bike back in 2 - 3 weeks. That was now 12 weeks ago and 50 weeks ago since I took the bike in for repair. Progress has been made though.... after trying another 2 fuel pumps they found out that the rectifier was faulty. Only took the death of 8 fuel pumps to get there. A new rectifier was ordered 6 weeks ago and on monday we were waiting for yet another fuel pump! 50 WEEKS to repair a single cylinder engine that was not faulty in the first instance ! Furious is an understatement. Notified trading standards and BMW who I have the finance agreement with. Sorry for this tale of woe and negativity, enjoy your bikes, I have almost forgotten what mine looked like .
4 hours after posting this I have just received my first Phone call from Husqvarna apologising for this mess. Bike is now going to get a full engine rebuild and will be delivered back to me in under 3 weeks. Coincidence? or the power of Cafe Husky?
Not to Jinks you but man do I hope the new Motor doesn't have any issues. Good luck to you sir. Hope all goes well.
Yes good luck. If I were SP you would be getting a new bike. Not saying in any way it's his fault the problem was with the dealers and to a degree BMW. I mean come on man.....BMW parts/service should have said "hey didn't we already give you 2,3,4,5,6,7 of those fuel pumps for that vin./bike?" It's sad but it seems like not only bike shops but lots of other repair shops have little to no skill when it come to trouble shooting and then repairing thing. Again good luck and let us know how it works out. btw I hope SP gets the other dealer straight before letting them aboard the new ship.
Update time at the 13 month anniversary. Received an Email from husqvarna yesterday but no bike. It is so absurd that it made me laugh, Here is an extract that contains the punchline. Unfortunately we are not in the position to deliver the bike to you just yet because the fuel pump we received from Italy this week is defective and it is not working properly. We have tested the bike with a ' donor' fuel pump from a customer bike , and we can reassure you is all working perfectly. I have been in contact with Italy today and they have assured me than when they are back from holidays ( warehouse is still closed),they will test all the fuel pumps they have in stock and they will send the best working one they have. We are expecting the process to take roughly 2 weeks from now. 2 Weeks.... Really? I bet it doesn't.....
Three things you should know about Italy. 1 Beautiful place 2 Major industry is tourism 3 Almost impossible to get fired due to employment laws So far I've had good luck with my spares but if it wasn't for Halls helpfulness would be waiting for my fork tube for and extra 2-3 weeks. Good luck hope you get it back soon in one piece.
