I got my 610 yesterday...it's back firing and the valves are tapping. It runs and has power, but I don't want to do any damage. Any suggestions?
backfiring on decel, or just in general? On decel in my experience has always been one of to things. (small cracked ext upstream from the muffler, or running a lean fuel mixture. Valves could be just out of spec.
StangSlayer, it's back firing when starting and decel. Its got a Barrett straight thru carbon muffler. Thx
Don't know how much experience you have with the 610 motors, but they tend to be naturally noisy...are you sure what you're hearing is valves? I thought my motor was falling apart when I first fired it up brand new at the dealership 11,000+ miles later I don't even notice it anymore
The valve train is pretty noisy on these bikes. You get used to it. Backfiring on deceleration and an aftermarket pipe suggests you're running lean. Has the ECU been tuned since installing the pipe?
Thx WoodChick & jtemple. I feel better knowing that these bike sound noisy because mine sure does. My Triumph (3 cylinder)runs smoothly, so maybe I'm just hearing the contrast. Does the carburator have an ECU like the FI? All the work was done by Fast By Ferracci. I think they would have done what is nessesary to unclog the exhaust. I will try to find some info. Thx again.
Hey Chick...... how are things????? and what's happening with the new 06 610????? Need to see some pictures of it going down the trail......
Things are good...if a bit hectic. The TE motor is out (so easy!) and is resting comfortably on our motor guy's work bench. We should know more soon. It's about #23 on the priority list right now, though. Eric's dropping the fuel tank on the Pleasure Palace Deluxe Camper Van Extraordinaire tomorrow...if he can get to it through all that RV stuff...and replacing the $500 fuel pump, his 426 motor is also taking up valuable space on the aforementioned motor guy's work bench, my MR2 clutch finally died so we just push it from spot to spot out in front of the house, his WR250 needs new wheel bearings after less than 800 miles, and my 450 has a mystery oil leak. But, hey! My 610, 144 and SV650 are running like champs
No, I haven't. Been having too much fun riding it. Will do. It was mentioned in another post that it might be running too lean. The plug would show that.
I turned the carb mixture screw clockwise just a little, the idle went up, re-adjusted the idle and the back-firing quit. It's running much better.
Good to hear it! Make sure your exhaust flange bolts are tight, too. They tend to loosen up on the 610. Alot of times the clicking sound will sound like valves tapping but it's an exhaust leak.
