Coffee edit - pay attention to the year, the 2008 & 9 are different. The 2008 bikes cannot have cat removed unless 'surgery' is performed, part of the power up kit is a new muffler. The 2009 non-SM mikes can easily have the cat removed. The 2009 SM bikes also need 'surgery' or different mufflers.

Hi im new to this forum and i tried a few searches but didnt come up with what i was looking for. i own a 08 smr510 and i just installed the power up kit. i only purchased the lambda sensor plug harness plug/resistor. i have heard that with the power up kit the power difference is night and day. i didnt notice much of an increase in power when i took it out for a spin so i was wondering is the derestricted exhaust can a crucial part in the power up kit. i did find a post with instructions on how to remove the cat on an 09 supermoto but im not sure because the exhaust is a completely new set up from the 08s. there was also something on there about replacing a restrictor plate behind the air filter. i havent heard of anything like that in other forums talking about installation of the power up kit. i took mine off and there was a screen but didnt look like the pictures in the post. not sure if there are any types of restrictions behind that screen but any help would be appriciated.

    thanks
    Ryan

The muffler IS the power up kit. The other parts just remap the EFI to work with the muffler. All you did was make it run rich. You need a muffler. Yes, makes a huge difference in power, runs cooler, runs better.

k thanks. i didnt get the muffler with it because i wanted to keep my options open. most aftermarket muffler systems for the huskys are all the same, correct? all straight flow through design. so no matter what aftermarket muffler i get i should still receive roughly the same results as i would have with the arrow? i was leaning towards the HR1 exhaust from Hardrock Motosports. anyone have one of these exhaust cans?

    Thanks

and the best way to get ahold of George is calling him..when you do remember he's on the west coast so 3 hours behind us. he's also old school, COD only.. so If u cant be around to recieve UPS, or a neighbor can't, you'll hafta either do UPS pickup or send check ahead of time..

He and his products are worth it. There's not a more dedicated and knowledgeable Husky guy around anywhere..

I have seen the Husky p/u kit Arrow pipe. It is a beautiful piece of work. Has the etched H on the tip like the stocker. I have not seen an UpTite pipe though. Regardless, these are the only 2 pipes I would consider an option to put on my Husky. The pipe choice DOES make a difference. For example, for a DRZ there is only 2 pipes to choose from (Yosh Ti, MRD) if you want max gains from a built motor. The Husky's come from the factory with a built motor. Spend that $ wisely or you may just end up with more noise and nothing else.

the cats are not removable in the 08's. Unless you plan on doing muffler surgery.

That cat removal is for the rivet style canisters, how about a link to a welded can like a te450?

    What year TE450? 2008 or 2009?

EDIT - you seem to have a 2008 based on other posts you made, link to 'surgery' in post 10. As stated in post 9 the cat is not removable in 2008. I also changed post #1 to have more year detail.

All cats are removable, it's just a matter of how much time you want to put into cutting open the can and removing it. I am aware the 09's have the mid pipe cat... someone must have cut the can on a 2008 and performedd a simular mod...

Yes, you need to do some significant metal work to remove your catalytic converter. While there may have been some that have done that, most do not.

That has nothing to do with the power up kit however. That entails removing the O2 sensor and placing the power up plug on the end of the cable that used to go to that sensor which has a 2.2k ohm resistor in it. That is a completely separate thing to do - nothing to do with removing the catalytic converter.

"When" to do the power up kit is up for debate. George at Uptite in southern California who is a master at these bikes says to not install the power up kit for the first 600 miles and to leave the throttle stop in. Most people remove the throttle stop and install the power up kit much earlier than that.

Regarding the Dynojet products (Power Commander and Auto tune), I was there when the first 2009 smr510 was tested. While it did improve the bike, it was not a huge difference and if it were my bike I would not bother. That bike still had that catalytic converter in place.

so what you would do is wait till after the 6 months then do the power up kit? are there any exhaust kits available for this bike besides leo's ? will the power up kit run properly with just the stock pipes? what do i have to do to make the power up kit run at its best? i dont want to do any powercommander stuff. thanks again for everything again this site is the best!

    09 SMR510 cans

Apologies for the many words but there seems to be a lot of confusion over the 2009 SMR510 exhaust issue. Also - and not seen this mentioned, my 09 510 came with the PU kit, now fitted (not incl cans), and the full owners manual c/w the PU supplements. In the manual it also states 'TE/TXC/SMR models are equipped with a U.S Forest Service approved spark arrestor for maximum efficienty (their spelling) and performance'.(?) Well my thinking is after months of riding, the cat and the arrestor are def gonna back up with carbon and do no favours. Does anyone know if the 09 SMR twin cans have spark arrestors in also? Manual states these are visible by removing cans and looking into end, impossible on the 09 cans. And does anyone know of a listing for aftermarkets?? Thanks :)
