Hi everyone! New to the forum and just got a 2007 SM610 and love the thing. I have been reading this forum for awhile for fixes and things to look for as common problems. My clutch actuator arm has no slack to it. I have replaced the clutch cable with a motion pro part # 10-0123 and still cant have slack in the cable. The clutch cable has to be so tight in order to engage the clutch it almost stretches and the clutch hardly works the bike wants to stay in gear. I read the forum about the actuator being bent or broken so I'm tearing it down to inspect that today. Anything else I should look for while in there dealing with the clutch problem? Thank you guys for all the help already just reading old post
If you want to extract the arm from the case, you will probably have to remove the clutch. When you remove the right crankcase cover, you can see that, in the center of the clutch basket, there is a screw with a nut; it's visible here in the first two pics. I think that setting it could fix your problem. Of course, I would check the arm, too, if I was in your shoes. PS: welcome to CH!
Man I just put it all back together! So I found the clutch actuator arm to be fine and adjusted the clutch cable again still really tight. I did notice that the nut is not flush with the end of the screw. So I need to take it back apart and adjust the nut to sit flush right? Is there loc-tite for the nut? How does the nut stay tight on that screw? Thanks so much for the help I think that will fix it once I adjust the nut.
Mine is not flush either. On the manual, they state that that screw is properly set when the distance from here: to here: is 110.5 to 112.5 mm. Since I've never loosened that nut, I don't know whether it requires threadlocker or not, but on the manual they just wrote to tighten it.
HMMMMMMM. That is a very strange measurement because in the pic, with the actuator arm at that angle for my 07 sm610, the actuator arm does not come in contact with the shaft or "fork tube" according to halls parts catalog, that puts pressure on the clutch plate. So it is not even touching this plate. I have to move the actuator arm almost 180 degrees from where yours is in the pic in order for the actuator arm to make contact with the shaft to even start applying pressure on the clutch plate.
So basically if I adjust the nut on the plate it will not make any difference in that measurement because it still won't come in contact with the actuator arm. I'm really confused now. Thanks for the help though. Where can I find the real shop manual to download?
Sorry, my explanation was misleading. I utilized those pics just to show you the measurement limits, but the measure should be taken with the parts in their usual positions, like in this pic. Sorry, too much time elapsed and I don't remember where I got it. Anyway, try here.
Thanks man. I figured it out. I checked the arm and its not bent. The ARC clutch lever I installed with the motion pro cable is working out fine now. There is constant tension on the cable though because the orignal clutch lever went out so far from the bar. The new arm is adjusted closer to the bar so there has to be more tension on the cable in order to engage the clutch. That is great your in PDX let me know if you want to ride sometime man I'm free on the weekends would really like to meet up I'm new to Supermoto and don't have people to ride with.
