Does anyone know of a longer shift lever that will fit? Or any way to move the pegs back? I adjusted the shift lever up and that helped some but the lever hits too far up on my size 13 foot and makes shifting painful. Any ideas?
Have you still got the footpeg rubbers on ? Took mine off and it sorted the shift geometry out a lot.
I tried it without the rubber but no joy. My issue is the lever is just too close to the peg for my long feet.
Here's one idea http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/foot-peg-relocator.7323/#post-80471 BTW, It's sooooo much better without the foot pegs rubber inserts....
Thanks. I had just found that thread and Husky666 doesn't have any at the moment. I tried it without the rubbers and it is still too close. Hopefully Husky666 will make more soon.
I had the same problem with my size 12 boots so my dealer in Oz fitted a longer Hammerhead lever. I don't believe it was made specifically for the TE & am unsure what they did to make it fit, but I don't think it was a big deal and it works fine. The only thing I have noticed is that, as the lever is longer, on downshifting I sometimes catch the toe of my boot on the upper edge of my B& B bash plate, but thats something I just need to get used to. I suspect the Pivot Pegz would also do the trick, as they, well, pivot, including forward & down, so should allow you to get your boot under the lever much easier. I sampled a set on a demo TE449 and they looked like a quality item.
I was looking at the Hammerhead website and they don't specifically list a shifter for the Husky. Any idea which one works? Nevermind, I re-read your post and see where they used a shift lever not specifically designed for the Husky. I would sure like to know which one they used.
Is the Hammerhead aluminum? I don't like the metal one. A bendy aluminum one would be easier on the transmission when laying it over I would think.
The Hammerhead website is mainmoto.com au/hhcat/cat I don't know which one the dealer fitted. The dealer is Trooper Lu's in Sydney, which is a sponsor of this site. You could try emailing them, as I am away on holidays at the moment and can't access the invoice that may have listed a stock no. I'm sure they could help you & ship one to you if you wanted.
I mounted Husky666's foot peg relocates. Perfect! It's crazy how .5 inch makes so much difference. Thanks to all for the help.
I sent Trooper Lu's an email a month ago regarding buying a t-shirt and it took them around a week to get back to me to ask me for my PayPal ID. I sent it to them and have never heard another word. I'll try them again and ask about which shift lever they used and see if I can get a response.
Just to be clear Thumperama, it is a Hammerhead tip on the stock lever, not a full Hammerhead lever. As mentioned in my post yesterday under the thread "New Member and TE630 Owner" I thought the dealer put a full Hammerhead lever on before delivery, but learnt at the first service that they had in fact fitted a Hammerhead tip onto the stock lever. I also removed the rubber inserts on the footpegs, which was an improvement. Between these two changes it's now OK, but still not great and I might look at the relocator option that Chris Brown mentioned in the abovementioned thread. A couple of photos of the Hammerhead tip are included in that other thread. The part number and description on the sales invoice for the Hammerhead tip is: HD100112 Hammerhead Gear Tip 20+ Thinking outside the square, I don't know whether this could be another option, but an Australian magazine had a problem with a too short a brake lever on their Super Tenere, so got a welder to cut and TiG weld a 2cm extension into the standard lever, which was then buffed so that you could barely tell where the weld was. I have a photo of it and it is is top looking job. Thumperama, if you really want a T Shirt from Trooper Lus and don't have any luck directly let me know, as I could swing by and pick one up and mail it to you. I got one with the bike and they are pretty cool.
That part no. can be found at: http://mainmoto.com.au/hhcat/cat/ HAMMERHEAD DESIGNS BILLET & RUBBER BOOT SHIFT TIPS Original Knurled Tips +20mm Wide Tip 100112
Thanks Russ. I sent Trooper Lu's another email. If I don't hear back by next week I may take you up on your offer.
I note Trooper Lu's does have an EBay shop as well, which includes some T Shirts. However, it doesn't look like it has the type I have, which is the one shown on their main website.
