Hi Guys. Have any of you had issues with the white plastics becoming discoloured? My tank plastics have turned grey/brown where I grip the tank and I haven't been able to clean them. Cheers.

same issue here... seems that the plastics are not painted.. no clear coat.... just cheap thin plastic

409 seems to get my boot scuffs off the fender and side skirts, not sure if the tank shrouds are a different plastic on the all-white bikes...

Cheer. At least I'm not the only one. I might have to invest in some black or red (te) tank shrouds although I'm sure they're not cheap. Do you know of any after market plastics? I can't seem to find any on the net.

I looked through the spares list and found some black plastic replacements. Am still awaiting delivery.

I just used some bosistos eucalyptus spray to clean the sticky crap left from stickers and found it actually cleaned the plastics nicely....I hope doesnt turn the plastic yellow though.

There are plastic polishes out there that clean them up nicely. I've used 3M and that leaves it looking like new. Of course the issue will arise again, so maybe adding some kind of clear adhesive laminate over the sections being rubbed on will help.

I used a product named Plasti dip which came in a spray can, changed the color of my plastics and also put a synthetic rubber protective layer over my plastics. Had it on for a few months at least 1000 miles and its held up great. Just $6 a can at home deopt or lowes. Just another option if you don't have the money for new plastics.

Good luck, with the portions of the bike i did on the picture above I used two cans. I wanted to put it on pretty thick, maybe three layers on each piece.

Did you use any kind of primer or just wipe it down with alcohol?
I know plasti-dip has their own type of primer, but it only comes in liquid form.

Also, how well does it match the finish on the tank shrouds? I've got the black-red scheme on my SMS and would probably leave the red decals alone, at least until they start fading...

No primer, all I did was take off all the parts I wanted to spray and cleaned them with a generic all purpose cleaner in my sink, let them dry and spray away. Very simple the only thing that takes any time is waiting for the stuff to dry in between coats.

The cool thing about this stuff is when you're sick of it and want to take it off, it peels off fairly easy and mostly in one piece and does not damage your plastics. In fact your actually protecting it by spraying it having a protective coating on it another perk for when it comes time to sell your bike to get a new one. :)

Hmmmm, could I just spray right over the decals without showing the decal lines, and then leave them behind after peeling it off? That would be about the best thing ever...
    Like a spray-on body wrap...

I did spray over the decal on the front fender, if your close you can still see the outline of the decal under the plasti dip but it didn't really bother me. I'm still not sure what will happen when I peel off the plasti dip covering the decal worst case is I mess up the decal but I'm thinking if the plasti dip stays as one piece while its being taken off and I go slow over the decal it will hopefully not rip the decal or stick to it. Hope that makes sense. Guess I could have just said I don't know....
