Last year i demoed the 2moto snowbikes and what a freaking BLAST. Never stopped thinking about it, it is rediculiously FUN. Recently a buddy of mine called me to talk me into getting one with him so we both had one. I started investigating them. I have a KX500 doing nothing but the 2moto kit does not work with that bike. Fortunately there is the AD Boivin Explorer kit that mounts to any bike with different spacers. It has other advantages and maybe a few disadvantages as well. In all of this I was introduced to the NA distributor for the Boivin line. Looks like i will be demoing them this weekend and if all goes well and i like the kit they really want me to become a dealer. this should be interesting. my write up on the 2moto... http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=623641&highlight=snowbikes The 2moto demo i did last year...
Keep us posted on how you like the bovine model compared to the 2moto one. After riding one, I now NEED one. Your buddy is right, there really needs to be 2 or more people with these for everyone to really enjoy their day. A KX500 might just be the way to go with these. I am looking at doing a WR 250 to a 360 swap for next snowy season.
I think you would have a better time selling the $2500 version than the $4500 version. If you do start to sell them, let me know, because I've been thinking about getting one.
Congrats Kelly ...when will you know more? 5th. Gear out of Richmond BC was selling something (Saw it at the bike show) not sure what it was... never really looked that close except it was stuck on a 510. Can you tell what it is?
Kelly, Will the Boivan kit fit on the right hand drive of the WR's? If they do I will be wanting one to mount on my WR360 next fall. Keep us posted with your impressions of the Boivan, kit cost, and availability. I am definitely willing to buy. Thanks, Walt
yes, i have a link to that kit somewhere. Word is the dude who built those took off with a bunch of peopleS money. I also heard it sticks out to far to the rear and makes them very hard to turn. The Above is all unsubstantiated rumor but that's the word from my friend in the know.
I want one! In the winter there is a place for bike with studs or screws, a snowmobile and one of these conversions. http://www.explorermoto.com/home_en.aspx
I too have been looking at the AD Boivin for my KTM 450. The 2 Moto is just too expensive for me to justify. My hesitation is we don't get tons of powder. Actually, we never do. Our snow conditions are usually 5-10" of dense hard packed snow and ice. I trail ride in these conditions with studded tires, but once the snow gets over 6" deep, it gets a little tough. I just haven't heard or seen any reports about how well these track conversions work in our conditions. They always show guys blasting through two feet of powder.
2whlrcr, Here's my report on the 2moto kit. I really liked it when there was fresh snow to play on. On the hard pack, I didn't have nearly as much fun. http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1569&highlight=2moto
I think I read your report before and was remembering your hardpack response. Most of my riding would be on my own property in the tight confines of a wooded area. I'm envisioning be able to ride some of my single track. I wouldn't be following in a sleds tracks, but my own tracks. Again, we rarely get 8"-10" of fresh snow. Our snowfalls are normally 2"-4" at a time and sparse. So the snow gets old and dense. I think I would have a hard time buying one of these conversions, unless I had a chance to ride one in conditions similar to what we have. Sure looks like fun though.
Kelly, Can you give us a price quote on the AD Boivan kit? It is time to start planning for the winter(chit). Thanks, Walt
Sure, Email me and I'll work on it. I kinda gave up on the idea when a bunch of people seemed very interested and i thought I had like 5 kits sold. No one stepped up. It was the wrong time of the year but I think this is going to be the case a lot especially with the economy. It is super fun but it is also a toy, an expensive toy you bolt to another expensive toy. Super fun though, once you get to ride one your hooked.
