I'm looking to pick up a 2 stroke this winter. I'm selling my 2012 Super Tenere and using the $ to buy and setup the new bike. I have a few deals on paper already but I'm having some problems deciding. I was hoping yawl could go shopping with me here, so to speak.
I like the Gas Gas since it's pretty well decked out but she's a heavy gal.
The Husky's are really nice but I'm not sure I can afford another 4CS go round. How are the 2015 forks? My 2014 were a mess but MX-Tech took care of that for a good chunk of my running around $.
The KTM is also nice and is lighter than the Husky and Gas Gas but has a smaller fuel tank so I'd probably upgrade to a 3 gallon anyway so the weight is probably close to the Husky. The KTM has PDS and open chamber forks. All 3 bikes will be plated so no issues there.
I haven't decided on a 250 or 300 though. I haven't ridden a 2 stroke in a long time so maybe a 250 with a flywheel weight, knarly, G2 tamer and the green spring would be fine to tame the hit until I adjust my riding style. I'm keeping my 501 and I love the grunt so my gut tells me a 300 would be best for me with 14/50 gearing.

    What says you?

My pick is either the 2015 TE300 or KTM 300 XCW which is essentially picking do you want a link rear and plastic subframe or PDS and Ali subframe? Both, as l understand it, has 4CS forks unless you Yanks get something different?

GasGas a beautiful looking bikes but with their status as a manufacturer up in the air....

    Don't forget a Beta300RR as well?

I personally would get the 15 te300 and spend the difference (cheaper than brand new) and suspension to zipty racing. Buy spark arrestor from pmb or ee ... Run yellow spring and jet correctly...airbox mod to help her breath and I definately think you'll be happy until tires are trashed and get rid of the dunlops....that's just my opinion though. Add on all the other goodies down the road...pipe guard disc guards skid splate etc...the te300 is a strong engine as is so any extra funds for me would go into protection, suspension, aluminum impeller mod and cooling until you get bored with it which I doubt that would ever come =) it's a great bike once suspension and jetting is dialed and the the 300 is a smooth engine especially down low. Just my 2 cents though. If you need a bigger tank ims has a 3.2 for it

Thanks guys. Just to be clear, the KTM 200, 250 and 300 xc-w do not have 4CS forks, they have WP OC forks and PDS. The XC model KTM's have the 4cs and linkage like the Husky. The Gas Gas part issue is definitely on my mind, as is resale. I'm just unsure if a TE250 would be good enough power wise with some extra flywheel weight to smooth it out on the tighter single track.

Keep in mind that the 4cs has been out for long enough now for tuners to figure it out. See Terry Hayes thread in the KTM talk forum. My local tuner did an amazing job with mine very economically (OC conversion). He also sponsors Noah Kepple who rips in pro class Endurocross and he is very happy with the work as well.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm 6'4" with really long legs. The Beta, although a great bike, feels like a crf230 to me so it's not on my list. Even with all the tall guy ergo tricks, the Beta would be small for me.

So you're considering a 250 but want to tame it down...wouldn't that be what the 200's are for? If i had a 501 i would be looking at the opposite end of the spectrum and looking for the one that has a mountain bike feel to it with sufficient power for my fat ass...200

    Sorry I didn't help :)

I get it man. If I did go 250, I'd want to add some luggability and smooth the power. I probably confused everyone with my previous comments. I have a knack for poor articulation at times. ;)

Yeah people just always describe the 200 as 300 like (on a smaller scale of course.

Anyway, I'd just get the bike Jarvis rides then lol

I'm 6'6" and 210 lbs, I know it's not on your list but I'd go Yamaha like Troy said and spend the other 2k on mods. If you don't like blue they have the Yellow this year as well. Their 250 2 stroke comes in 3 different versions so you can start out with it closer to what you want if you don't like the YZ

Oddly enough, the yamaha is at least 600 more than any of my current choices and my right knee doesn't bend well so estart is required. All of my choices but the yamaha are street legal here so I'd be hard press to go blue. Just to many minuses on the blue.
My local ktm husky dealer is blowing out the 2014 2015 bikes before thanksgiving. I can get a 2015 200 xc w for 6783 otd with a plate. The 250 or 300 are low 7s. My yamaha dealer would have to order a 250x and I'm close to 8k otd with no plate.

if want a bike with similar low end grunt its the 300, but there is a price compared to a 250.
250's do handle that bit better
noticeably less vibes than a 300, coming from a 4 stroke you will notice this.
if you want better handling bike you can be on top of, rev harder and say be more racer with it a 250 is a good choice.

the new 250''s have allot more low end grunt than previous 2013 models, and the difference between the 2 are less but 300's are stronger.

I own a 250 and have ridden 300's both good bikes, i find 250 are i little softer but still have plenty of power it depends if its all about power for you or something a little different

Don't do it, KTM's still suck. If they were so good they wouldn't need a premium brand. Buy the premium bike ;)

I'd pay $100 now to know what changes WILL happen to 2t enduros in 2017...anyone have a crystal ball or solid inside gossip they'd like to share ? :D
