Well I sold the '83 supermoto I did and had all sorts of plans not involving a Husky, but then......
    I got a CR frame, a '92LC4 motor for £200, a set of massive 49mm '98 RM forks and a set of 17"s.
The last pic is what I'm going for looks wise. I think it's a foolish undertaking and I hope you agree and talk me out of it.

The real question forgetting labor, because that is really just your own personal entertainment, did you lose money on the '83? If yes, stop and rethink your plans, if no build away. You know you're just going to end up selling this one too.

Oh god that motor has to freaking go. I have personally been around lc4's a bit. A friend has 2 that have needed rebuilds in 20k miles, and I personally inherited a bike that had 3 dead motors with it. All in 30k miles. Guy bought ebay motors and rode them for a bit until they grenaded (not long btw) over and over.

Do yourself a favor and pickup a period correct 2 smoker.

    Interesting project Joe !
Talk you out of it ...... NO.
If you get as much enjoyment out of building bikes as I do then it's a no brainer. Trouble is, I build them and don't sell them. As for losing money, it depends what you want out of it. Profit, I don't think so. The engineering and sense of achievement when finished says it all. Plus the fact we need another one of your build threads on here. If I wasn't so lazy I would be posting pics of my auto build.

Just put some motocross wheels on it and come race with us :)

I lost money on the '83 but still got strong money for it. I really enjoyed building it on this forum, building bikes is my main hobby so losing money isn't that important anyway. A big air cooled 2 stroke ain't no good as a supermoto really but when I bought the last CR originally I had visions of green laning, there are no legal green lanes where I live as I found out later. I got a big KTM sumo that I love and my last project is below which I'm going to be using this summer. I will be building this husky as a keeper/user for sure hence the usable 4T lump. And the price of a husky air cooled 4T motor is a little over my budget!

Point taken but I do need a 4 stroke. I find it so useful to get opinions to make me see farther than the end of my nose. I guess an air cooled Yamaha engine would be the obvious choice, the hunt is on...

Just being daft here ... stupid money, if ever you could find one ..... what about a Wasp twin. 1000cc of joy !
You would have to fight off the sidecar boys for one though.

Got to be a serious contender. The KTM lump was originally bought to go in a 1980 KTM 420 roller that I have. I'll be selling both off pronto. I like the fact this bolts in and that I could buy a whole bike for not too much. I could twin shock the swinging arm, use the loom etc and sell off all the left over bits. I love this process, it will all come together in an Indiana Jones style blinding flash of light and all will become clear soon. What are you doing with that engine/frame Erik, are you building a bike from it?

I picked up the forks tonight and they bolt straight in(ish). 49mm Showas, possibly the best conventional fork around so I'm told. Got them for£130 with yokes, seller complained of being robbed. I'll refurb the sliders in gold a'la silver streak and rebuild. Stantions are unmarked, very pleased. They look huuuge, a good start. the KTM engine is back in it's box under the KTM in the background ready for sale...
When I get an engine and a clear vision I'll start a proper thread.
