A couple of days ago I went to remove my spark arrestor and the snap ring was rusted into place and was very difficult to remove. I started to clean it up, but decided to put in a stainless one instead so I don't have this problem in the future. I ordered it from McMaster Carr. The stainless clip is slightly thinner but seems to work fine.

I like to pull out my spark arrestor and plug my exhaust with a rubber plug when I wash my bike so I don't get water into the exhaust. Last time I washed it, I got some water in the exhaust, didn't start it for a week and I must have had a valve sticking, it was hard to start and took a minute before it started to run well.

So anyway you guys with the 08's may want to take out your spark arrestors as part of your regular maintenance routine so it does not get rusted in. And start your bikes after washing them. :)Ken

I've used a 2 stroke exhaust plug for my exhaust with the spark arrestor in after just trimming the small end off slightly to reduce the overall length. Diameter fit the spark arrestor fine.

I shove a plastic grocery bag into the exhaust pipe and over the instrument cluster (TE).... figure they might be put to good use.

Nice find on the part number for the stainless steel ring!

I use the plastic grocery bag over the foam air cleaner when washing and have subbed in a piece for the exhaust pipe a time or two also.

no spark arrestor in mine,PA isn't a fire zone like Cali is,its wet here 11 and a half months out of the year. Sealed my speedo up with black silicone before I even rode it once, and have never had a problem with it.
