I feel a little stupid for posting this, but just picked up a '09 300 today and am giving everything an inspection. When I pulled the plug wire, I found there was no terminal cap (or whatever it's called) on the plug. Is this the way it's supposed to be? It sure doesn't look like it's stuck in the boot (as far as I can tell). So does the boot just go straight on the threaded portion? :excuseme:

Yes, the boot will only fit over the threaded stem. You have to remove the screw on tip from a new plug when you install one.

I have to admit I'm scratching my head on this one with my 12 wr300. Looking into the open end of the spark plug boot looks like a spark plug terminal cap is stuck in the boot. The spark plug has only the threaded post with no cap. If I twist the plug into the cap in the boot it will start to thread, but that's problematic when trying to install the plug into the jug. Part of me wants to take some needle nose pliers and pull out the cap from the boot, but not knowing if that's "standard" I don't want to break it but seems kind of a weak link to me.

The bare threaded part can get bent sort of easily. I have thought about getting a different style of cap that takes the little thread cover installed on the plug.

I don't care for those either. I switch them over to a NGK cap that uses the terminal. They have a nice tight "click" when they go on.

On the plug pic you posted, notice the "P" type plug on the left. Those run better in 2-strokes than the regular non projected nose plugs. In my KX500 I could get those to last a whole season or more. Cam.

"P" series plugs run hotter at lower rpm than a regular plug. That's why they work so well in 500cc bikes.
