So my new-to-me bike had a spinning front of the gas tank insert. I searched and read all the threads and got it out with my impact gun and a screw driver to pry it out. I then got the bolt out of the insert. The insert is square in the back, the part that goes into the tank 1st. Here's where I hit a problem, though. I pushed the insert back into the hole to do a test fit prior to JB Welding it back in. However, the insert protrudes from the face of the tank about 1/8" to 1/4". It doesn't sit flush with the tank. How did I lose the depth of the hole? Now I have half a hole! Right now I just added washers to make up the depth of the protrusion to squeeze against the shroud. Any ideas?
