Recently move to Las Vegas and waiting for the 2010 Husqvarnas to arrive. However, here in Las Vegas we have only one Husqvarna dealer. Anyone have any experience with Sports Cycle Sales?

I have went by there a couple times and they don't seem to promote Husqvarnas and much as KTMs? Out front of the shop there is a large number of KTMs and a couple small cc Husqvarnas? I'm wonder if he knows that BMW of Las Vegas will evenually be the premier Husqvarna dealer in Las Vegas? I know a large number of BMW dealers across the country are ramping up to carry Husqvarnas on their showroom floors.

I also stop by BMW of Las Vegas and spoke to Peter Vanderhooft, Dealer Principle. We had a long conversation about the new 2010 Husqvarnas and he also showed me the new shop where all the repairs will be done. He told me he is currently applying for approval from BMW Group to sell Husqvarna motorcycles as well. He also said he was amazed that there where some interest in Husqvarna motorcycles in the area. So he told me If he can get more riders to show interest, it gives him a better chance of getting a quicker approval to sell Husqvarnas.

Note: So, If any of you live or visit the Southern Nevada (Las Vegas) area stop by and holla at him and let him know how we need more Husqvarna support in the area.

They're an OUTSTANDING bunch in there. No, not the largest shop, but you'll be hard pressed to find a shop with as much off-road knowledge as they have to offer. What I would call a TRUE bike shop full of true enthusiasts. I was only in Vegas for a few months last year, but gave them all the business I could when I was riding KTM. Don't hesitate to ask any/all questions. Friendly bunch who always seemed willing to show a new guy around the desert!

I bought a new 510 Husky from a KTM shop that could also get Huskys. Wasn't too pleasant of an experience. Afterwards, I decided to give my future business (a new TE250) to a shop that focuses on Huskys. Even if I have to drive farther. Support those that support you, and your Husky.

    Sportsman Cycles Sales?

I thought Casey Folks was at the Husqvarna Meeting in Vas Vegas?

Sportsman Cycles Sales is tied into The Best In The Desert Series and was one of the best Husqvarna shops in the west back in the day.

Yes, they're a big KTM supporter, but I also know they also happen to be real good friends with Scott H. if that means anything... So my guess is they would be a good Husqvarna resource.

No, no, they're not a Suzuki dealer, that's Nevada Suzuki. It's next door to Sportsman Cycle Sales. No doubt about it, Sportsman Cycle supports both KTM & Husky. Last time I was in there they had quite a few Huskies in house so if they're down to a couple, means they're selling bikes, which tells me they know something about them otherwise they wouldn't be a Husky dealer. I hope Husky does get in step with the BMW dealers as it's good for the company, but I'll continue to give my business to the smaller, less corporate shops every time. Especially when the shop comes with the experieince of a shop owner such as the Folks. They've done so much to support the off-road community. Anyone out there whos been on one of their organized trail rides or knows of the Best in the Desert knows what I'm talking about.

I’d advise you come Vegas again and check. I live 20 minutes (with traffic) from the dealership. I have been by the shop at least 12 times in the last 9 months. They don’t seem to give us Husqvarna riders a lot of respect in the way of brand support!

Last time I check they did not win a dealership award at the Husqvarna dealer meeting here in Las Vegas nor do they conduct husky demo rides (Technically they do KTM demo rides through their Trac-On ADV Tours). Also they don’t sponsor husky riders or small husky racing teams (i.e. Zipty Racing) like Malcolm Smith Motorsports or GP Motorcycles in San Diego as well as some of the well known Husqvarna dealers in California & Nevada. I also don’t see them advertise in some of the same publications other dealers use. (A small ad in the local Yellow Pages)

I find it hard to believe that out of 13 southwest Husqvarna dealerships they are 1 of 2 dealers that they don’t have a websites of any kind! (At least have one for customers wanting to order parts & accessories or for checking dealer specials) I also didn’t see them doing any promotions or a major local promoting at the Supercross finals, US Open, Mini Nationals, a least this past year or any of local MX tracks. Now as far as desert races they do promote the KTM side of their dealership. However, here in southern Nevada, we only have a couple major motorcycle desert races a year. Not like AMA D37 Desert Races in SoCal.

Last point visit http://www.bitd.com you will see them promoting the dealership and KTM motorcycles, but what you will not see is a Husqvarna logo or any other Husqvarna ads mentioned anywhere on the website? Question? If they are the premier Husqvarna dealer in Southern Nevada at least give Husky equal promotion and support as the KTM brand!

Regarding non-corporate dealers: It has its pros & cons. But we live in the 21 century! Motorcycles are becoming just as technical as automobiles and customers demand good pre & post sale and service support. The dealers that keep up with technology and take pride in gaining new customers, keeping current ones and giving good service will survive & thrive. Others will become old, dirty, used motorcycle repair shops located on a side street selling old parted out used street bikes and a few dirt bikes as a side income!

My Overall Observation: Honestly, Yes, they may be nice folks to ride with, but I just don’t see them in full support of us husky riders here in Southern Nevada. I give Kudos to Husqvarna dealers like Uptite, Hall’s, Malcolm Smith Motorsports, and others that have been in business for decades, but are always striving to become better innovators, supporters, and overall give an husqvarna rider a better riding/racing experience!

Currently I see myself traveling down I-15 for 4-5 hours into L.A, Long Beach, Orange County or Riverside for sales, service and some accessories! At least until BMW of Las Vegas gets approval to sell & service Husqvarnas. They are chomping at the bit to give us top notch sales, service, parts, and accessories support!

Sorry to hear your experience has been less than pleasant. I sure don't own any stock in the dealership, just had good experiences with them is all. Going back to your origional post, sounds like you may have already had the answer you were looking for.

Yes, Unfortunately I was hoping to they would step it up a notch and give us Las Vegas Husqvarna riders the same support that they get the KTM riders. Known they sell both brand of bikes. It seems I’m getting more respect from the California husky dealers. Honestly I believe what is going to happen by next year is BMW of Las Vegas is going to become the premier Husqvarna dealer. At some point and time BMW Morrad seems to want to have all the Husqvarnas & BMW dealerships to have somewhat of an upscale feel to them as well as an provide a professional level racing sales & service shop.

    Thanks for the information.

Please don't take this in the wrong way, but why did you come on to this site asking a question about Sportman's Cycles?

From reading your post it sounds like you're interested in creating awareness for another dealership.

Sportman's Cycles is a great shop owned by a very enthusiastic family who supports the sport in a big way.

If there's another dealer coming to Las Vagus... that's great, but please don't play this site with a bait and switch at an existing dealers expense.

Sportman's Cycles has a great reputation.

First of all I think you’re looking at this question on a personal level and taking it out of context. It sounds like you have a personal relationship with the shop and that’s fine. At some point and time you probably have had your bike(s) work on by them. I’m not trying to bash them or disrespect them or create conflict in any way. I’m just being a smart consumer and researching and asking questions. Ultimately delivering an honest opinion of my research. Plus, most husky owners realize BMW ultimately controls the future direction of Husqvarna.

But I'm looking at it from a business perspective. I'm about to spend $10,000 out the door on a Dirt Bike! With the average operating life span of 3 years under heavy abuse. I want to make sure that I have pre & post sales support as well as have access to timely product information. I also want to know that I have a dealership that cares about the brands they sell and not just sell me a bike, then don’t know me after I’ve loaded up it and gone!

I also want to know that the dealership has a good reputation, and is part of large network resources and does quality & timely repairs. It promotes the brand which helps implement future technology into the bikes. (i.e. EFI on all the bikes). I’m also looking at a dealership that is using 21th Century technology to communicate and better serve its customers.

As you are aware, Husqvarna is owned by BMW. BMW Morrad over sees the Husqvarna division. At some point in the next year or so. BMW is going to require all dealerships to sell Husqvarna motorcycles. It is currently happening in Europe! Below are some links to some articles that are talking about the future plans of Husqvarna and the direction they want to go with the brand.

So with all this in mind I’m looking at the big picture and prepare myself to make smart consumer decisions on what I’m going to be paying for the bike, the type service I aspect to get, (Base on industry standard and/or what the award winning dealerships are doing), the level of pre & post dealership support, the level of professionalism of the dealership and the future direction BMW & Husqvarna is going.

Basically I’m doing what any other smart consumer would do. You probably do the same thing when you go out and buy a Flat screen T.V., a new car/truck, maybe a new home or with any other big ticket item! You Ask Questions & Compare!

No, I never been to Las Vegas Nevada nor do I have any interest going there! The place look like the desert with buildings and straight roads.

I was only in Nevada once when I flew into Reno for some skiing in the Lake Tahoe area, but now I do all my skiing in Utah. (NICER SNOW!)

So no, I have no relationship with Sportsmans Cycles and I've never done business with them, but if I was in Las Vegas and I needed something for my Husky, I'd stop there first and I'm sure they'd do a good job getting me out riding again, from what I've heard from my friends.

Truth is I've lived in New Jersey since the early 70s when I started riding dirt bikes back in my early teens.

I like the east coast we have a lot of variety in terrain, woods, rocks, sand, grass, Big Trees, Little Trees and lots of moist dirt and water! We even have culture... something that they seem to be trying to recreate in Las Vegas.

So NO I have no relationship with Sportman's Cycles other than having a lot of friends who ride in different parts of the country... especially out west and some even in the Las Vegas area.

What I do know is Casey Folks and the Folks boys give a lot back to the sport.

They're an accomplished racing family and they promote OFF-ROAD RIDING and RACING IN A VERY BIG WAY!

They pretty much built the Best in the Desert Series.

They run an off-road tour business in the Las Vegas area and they seem to be really good people.

When I see someone come on to a public forum like this one and Thumpertalk starting a thread asking a question about a dealership only to answer it with their own answer it kind of smells or should I say... IT REEKS!

I'm not a big fan on dealer bashing! What even pisses me off more... is when someone bashes a dealer and promotes another dealer... especially one who isn't even proven or selling the product yet!

This thread stinks and I'm calling it for what it is!
