I have heard that a sprang clutch from a KTM Lc4, Ducati monster or even the rotax are all the same!

I have the complete assembly for my TXC 310 ready to go in under warranty.

What I want to do is just get hold of this part number that fits. I think they be all the same. I can then replace this part before any damage is done to flywheel...:)

    Can anybody help me?

Mine siezed up solid and I can't seem to get it apart.

I had some spares from an old motor so I swapped them in.

I think the sprag spins on the starter gear and is fixed on the flywheel so it sould not wreck the flywheel......the starter gear is anothr story.

I did not know the parts are the same on an LC4!

New sprag clutch seems to be OK. No noises yet.

What are the issues with the starter gear then?

    Nice weather Sunday...

    Wow,

I'm sure mine looks like that too.....if I can ever get it apart! Did yours come apart?

    The ring gear is toast

The flywheel too it loooks like.

    Did you replace it all?

Can you buy a flywheel seperately, or does it come with a stator?

Mine just didn't grip. The starter just span. Some do lock up!

Just replaced the sprag clutch only. Seems to work fine even with the rubbing marks...

Trick is to replace sprang as soon as it gets noisy. Don't wait till it takes out the mateing parts...:)

£300 for flywheel/ magnets here in UK. Not sure if that comes with Stator?

What was your issue here? Have you had the same problem I am having - shearing keys? I have sheared 2 in the last week and am not sure what to do. I almost think the taper of the shaft is not doing it's job of holding the flywheel. Have you experienced this? Got any advice for me as to how to prevent shearing keys? My bike is a 2013 txc310r. I have less than an hour of riding time on it and have sheared 2 keys!

Are you sure you're putting it together right and torquing the nut properly? Can you post some pics of the parts just to get idea of what might be wrong? I've had 4 of these bike and no problems with shearing keys.

Hi there was looking at your post very interesting to hear other makes of motorbikes have the same sprag clutch good news if you need just to buy a sprag clutch , I recently replaced my starter cog due to sheering and had to buy the sprag ,starter wheel and worm and bearings as a kit they wouldn't sell separately from husky dealers, Could you let me know where you bought your sprag clutch from if you wouldn't mind ,
    Cheers

I've put many flywheels on with the following procedure and never had one shear a key again....yet

Remove all burs if any are present. Put a little valve lapping compound on the flywheel and GENTLY lap it to the crank end.

Clean it off and use a NEW woodruff key. make sure the key fits W/O binding. Lightly file off any burs.

Put a little Loctite 609 retaining compound on the shaft end...just a little it will set in the lapping scratches you just made.

Use the ZipTY tool to hold the flywheel in place while tightening and use a REAL Torque wrench to tighten to 80NM which is a little tighter than the spec.

Do not just blast it on with an Air Impact Wrench. That will probably shear the key right there.

The sprag clutch is designed to grab the hub when the engine is stopped or turning over. Once the engine starts then centrifugal force releases the clutch from the crankshaft.

I had the same issue with mine slipping. The cause was when the bike backfires it stretches the garter spring. The wear on the clutch surfaces looks normal. Simply go to a bearing shop and buy any oil seal for a 50mm diameter shaft. Take out the garter spring from the seal and fit it to the sprag clutch. Reassemble and ride.

What's your starter motor like is it ok I had to get one because the brushes wore out they can't be replaced easily but I'm going to have a go, a new starter motor is over £200 , how many hours have you got out of your bike before you've got any trouble from your bike , I think the 310r I have is a fine looking bike very easy to ride and don't want to change it however was very close to trading it in and buy one of the newer husky's(KTM) but do not want to do that .
