Thanks everyone. I've posted on ADV, CSC and UTMC, facebook groups like denver rusted nutz and the general riders I know there. Anywhere else colorado related I should note it? On the upside should the thief try and sell bits, it should stick out like a sore thumb and catch someones attention. And remember to check your insurance guys, we end up adding a lot more to some of these bikes then they'll cover without special addendum and the like.
To bad these are not the old days of many many years ago. From what I read if they caught a horse thief, it was a severe punishment. I liken taking a persons bike the same as stealing their horse. If they catch the skank I hope they wallop his ass real good. Just to bad they have laws that protect skanks who steal peoples stuff and you can't beat their ass for it.
Figured I should update here. The bike was recovered down in Pueblo (110 or so miles south) it was being ridden with no plate/tail lights and pulled over. They can't/won't give any real information only that things are pending and I'll be notified if and or when someone is charged. It was stripped down to basic dirt bike looks and is rideable. Now to do the insurance dance all over.......
I am encouraged to hear that you got it back. I have another friend that got his steet legal KX 500 back after 5 yrs and it was still in decent shape. Stroker Ace has a story about his stolen 610 that almost brings tears to youre eyes.
Great news, MTNE! Hopefully it didn't get ridden much and is not trashed. Curious to see how it all turns out.
So the ordeal is basically over. I was able to buy my bike back from the insco for about $2300, which the difference allowed me to buy another 08' TE610 as a back up plan for $2100. I'll need to do some work to both to get them back in the shape I want. On the upside, I'll be able to set up a dedicated TE and SM set up...... So all in all I got damn lucky and got the bike back and in okay shape and was allowed to keep it.......... not sure it was worth the headaches and stress but I'll take it.
Well you see, the bike was recovered the day after the ins co paid out on a total loss. So they stopped processing on the title, and backed up the process to get an estimate and figure out the difference which I paid back as if it were recovered in the first place. I could have argued more about value but after 5 months I just wanted it done. Upside being it's not branded salvage since the damage was only half of their figured value.
Not sure how did I miss this thread but I sure am so glad it ended so much better then how it usually does It sucks you had to go through this mtne, I will be in tears if one day my bike won't be where I left it. I'm glad it ended well for you
if punishment was a lot tuffer on these dirty theiving scum bags we may slow down bike theft. or maybe we should just cut off their hands. either way its nice to know you got your back back.
